Increased speed worth the extra voltage?

I had my Barton 2500+ @ 2.4GHZ on 1.85v using my watercooling setup and it never broke 44 degrees C under any load. I played around with it a little more and was able to get it Prime stable at 2600MHZ, but I am having to use 2V to do so. I have primed it for 24 gours and according to MBM5 the temps never rose above 48C. So should I be worried about my chip or should I leave it be and enjoy the extra speed boost? Thanks.

Well, that depends mostly on how long you plan on keep that chip. It isn't going to last for years, running at 2V. But, if you're like most of us, and build a new system every year or so, I'd say leave it and enjoy having a 2.6Ghz Barton! BTW, any benchmarks? Or CPU-Z screenshots?

alright cool, I never keep any chip for more than six months, so that's not an issue. I'll try and post some screenshots later tonight when I have tiem to upload them to my web server. I'll also run some becnhes later too and see what I get...

2.6 GHz on Barton 2500? That is a rocket man. Keep it that way and when it goes poof, buy another one. What's $90 anyway?

haha, thanks guys, with my 9800NP flashed to pro BIOS and overclocked to 445/370 I got 6850 3DMark 03 score and 20, 510 3DMark 01 Score. I'll do more testing soon and post some screen shots.

wow. 2.6 BARTON. that's fast.
Hey, I'm thinking he might have the P4 3.2EE killer...

might be but @ 2V .. it's not gonan last as long. but for 90 bucks, can't argue with that price. even if the cpu lasts 1 year at that volt, i think it's well worth it.

Ya, like I said, this CPU is just lasting me until I see what the 939 A64's look like vs. the 775 P4's

D@mn, my machine just crashed and I can't get it back up...I am currently on my laptop, being pissed off at my desktop....I hope I didn't fry my chip, temps seemed fine, but I was starting up Call of Duty and bam....I've tried shorting the CMOS jumper, removing the battery and replacing, any other ideas?

well, I got it back up, albeit at 2.45GHZ @ 1.85V. After letting it sit for an hour with everything unplugged I got it up long enough to cut it down. I can't believe I had my system a 2.6GHZ and it crashed before I could enjoy it....I might try cranking it back up long enough to take screenshots....like the others said $90 bucks isn't a huge deal....

Hey man, why don't you give the guys over at xtremesystems.org a chance to help you get it/keep it running at 2.6ghz? Here's the link to their forums: link. Go into the XtremeOverclocking forum. There are guys in their that run their Athlon64's at 3.3ghz, and their P4's at 4.0ghz, and get nearly 30,000 on 3dMark 2k1! If they can't help, then it isn't possible...

Thanks bud, I've never been there before, but I'll give them a try, I would love to keep this chip at 2.6GHZ....of course, who wouldn't!
