What is this all about? And I have searched from top to bottom in system.ini, and I can't find anything that looks like minSP.

I was hoping this minSP error message would be familiar to someone here. It comes up at boot, frequently after installing new software. I didn't write it all down, but it says something about a recently installed Vxd something or another.

Yes, I should have wrote it down. Windows seems to take care of it all by itself. I usually have to click any key several times and the sytem will then boot into Windows. On a subsequent reboot, it does not appear again.

I did a search in Microsoft's knowledge base and came up with nothing. But this is not unusual for me. I must not speak the same lanquage as their knowledge base, because I rarely can find anything there I am looking for.

The MinSPs setting goes into the [386Enh] section of system.ini -- it isn't there by default, so just add another line
I'm assuming the error you've been getting is something like this:
"Terminating thread due to a
stack overflow problem. A VxD, possibly recently installed, has consumed too
much stack space. Increase the setting of 'MinSPs' in the SYSTEM.INI or remove
recently installed VxDs."

http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q149/0/83.asp has some info on the MinSPs stuff

And yeah, the external Knowledge Base sucks -- luckily our internal KB is a bit easier to search

Strangone, I want to give you a very sincere thank you. You provided exactly the information I was looking for.

That was exactly the error message I was getting. The knowledge base article has the exact fix I needed.

You da man!

No problem -- it's what I do for a living ;)

And while we're on the subject, I was just doing some stuff here looking for some basic system.ini stuff -- only found 20 articles that didn't apply (mainly listings for what's on the Windows cds), yet the fourth hit on google was the exact kb article I wanted... Yet MS wants end users to start using the KB instead of calling tech support. This amuses me to no end, heh.
