this may be a very stupid question and if it is forgive me =)... but.. is it at all possible to increase the max refresh rate my comp can handle. right now my max refresh rate is only 75hz @ 1600x1200. is there a possible way to increase that without damaging my monitor..

thanks!

I'm almost positive that this is a hardware limitation. You need to have hardware support in your video card and monitor for a certain resolution and refresh rate to get it to work. You are not going to change this by modifying system settings.

yeah.. its definately the monitor(dell 21" trinitron) thats keeping it at 75hz max. my vid card, kyro2, can handle up 95hz @ 1600x1200. i was wondering if there was something that would force it to refresh at a higher rate.. and how much damage that might possibly cause to my monitor.

sorry for not having a technical answer, but you really do not want to put your monitor out of spec like that. increasing the software's ability to refresh higher in games is a lot different than forcing your monitor to do something it was not designed for, besides i don't think that it is possible.

You cand try finding the latest .inf file from your monitor manufacturer's website. I did this recently with my 21" ViewSonic P810 and not only did I get 2 new resolutions but it increased my refresh rate @ 1600x1200 from 70 hertz to 75 hertz.
