Inconsistant Internet Pricing on Amazon

I have been watching the prices on some home theater equipment on several different sites because I intend to buy in the near future...

What I found today is puzzling and disturbing...

I checked the price of the Samsung DLP HLT6187S TV last night at home... 2149 plus free shipping... Then I checked it again at work today... 2349 no free shipping.

Same model, Both sold directly from amazon.com, not another vendor.

Then I checked it again at home tonight... still 2149 + free shipping...

What gives?
It cant be a regional thing... my work and my home are like 3 miles apart...
This seemingly inconsistent pricing is crap...

How then do I know I am getting the absolute best price for an item? What if somewhere else its listed for 1849 on amazon...? Does the BBB have anything to say about this?

Amazon prices sometimes change throughout the day. It's showing up as $2149 for me too, Free Shipping.

Not saying that that's definitely the answer, but it does happen.

So what if it is? They can change their prices whenever they want. What is the BBB going to do about it?

I've seen that happen before on Amazon. A few years back there was a high def CRT set I wanted that was normally around $900-800 + shipping. Then, suddenly it was $599 with free shipping. I ordered and thought to myself "Score!" It turned out it was; the next day it was back up to it's normal price.

All that said, I would have been really mad if I'd been on the losing side of that deal.

actually it appears amazon is practicing discrimatory pricing... under the guise of "dynamic pricing"...

Customers of Amazon.com, the behemoth e-commerce retailer, were recently startled and quite upset when they learned that the online mega-store was charging different customers different prices for the same DVD movies.[1] Amazon, it appears, was engaging in a form of ?dynamic pricing? ? an innovative pricing mechanism made possible by recent advances in information technology. By using the plethora of information gathered from customers ? ranging from where they live to what they buy to how much they have spent on past purchases ? dynamic pricing allows online companies to adjust the prices of identical goods to correspond to a customer?s willingness to pay.

Buy it from amazon, and monitor the price for the next 30 days. If it drops, call em up and they will credit you the difference.

Rinse and repeat if it drops again.

Yep, I've done this for as little as 2 bucks. Just by sending them a simple email they will credit you courteously and fastly.

Exactly, and if you pay with Amex, they'll cover you for the same thing. Online shopping is amazing if you know a few of these basic things.

I bought a battery charger from Amazon for $50. Then I see it for $40 - I asked for a refund of the difference. Then the price went back to $50, so they said no. Then the price went back to $40, and again I asked and that time I got the refund. Their prices can change frequently.

I wish people would fucking stop with the "BBB" crap everytime there is a perceived problem with a store. BBB won't do shit. They aren't some magical government organization that can take care of your petty problems. geesh.
