Income modesty

Why will no one ever tell you how much they make a year? It's so dang annoying.

1. "Man, I have this really cool job doing blah blah blah blah."
2. "That sounds cool, how much do you make?"
1. "Enough."
2. "How much is enough?"
1. "Dude, don't worry about it."
2. "@#$&@)$*@)&@$"

What's the big deal? If I HAD a job 😉 I wouldn't care if someone asked and I'd share if they did.

sometimes people dont want others to know how much they make. i wouldnt want the whole world to know you make bank right? then the moochers would be all over you for freebies. its just become commonplace not to tell and not to ask what a person makes.

Because they don't know if people will start making judgement calls about their personality or worthfullness if they divulge their income. This cuts down on class discrimination somewhat. Though this was the obvious answer, and I know you already knew that...so I'll just say they do that just to annoy you 😉😀

Maybe people of afraid a set number will be beaten by whoever they tell it to.

or

Maybe they just don't want to tell.

Congrats on being willing to divulge such information, this makes you unique, just like everyone else.

BTW, I make 6.50/hour.

i wish i made some major cheese

Hopefully, I get outta college and get a job right-away so I can pay back my parents for college

See that wasn't so hard now was it? 😀

If I made bank and made it because of my own accomplishments I'd be proud to say how much I make, and if I made jack shniz I'd just say it - "I make $10k a year."

Goodness, Laust. $27k this year already? That's amazing. Is that US$? I figure I gross about $42k per year for the household (wife works summers only). That's what I put on credit card applications, anyway.

I think I just made senior member status !!!

Tell us On the Books and PM us off the books 😉

Being from Cali I think were gonna be jealous, is it true if you make $80K annually you're still stuck in an Apt?

guys from the IRS could be reading this forum & cross checking with what info you sent to them

Maybe thats why I didn't get my state check... oh wait I never get my state check, No wonder I'm bitter about this place 😉 BTW the crap weather is still the 1st reason, I need to race all year round 🙂

. Typical three bedroom is $2500/month, or so.

HOLY MOLEY!! We have ones like that but they are not typical!

If it'll make you feel better, I made $35k last year, but that was entirely commission, I should be in management by July which'll be about $50k + bonuses. Bear in mind I live in northeast WI, it's pretty cheap living. My roomy 2BR is $460 with utilities included...

Some people are concerned about it becoming a divider, same reason some people refuse to talk about religion / politics.

Sad but true

Well, if it's at work I won't even try to bring it up. Discussing payrates with coworkers is alot like opening up a Packard Bell. Nothing good can come out of it.

I think income modesty is generally good idea. Envy is easily generated by such revelations. WHere I think it is a poor idea is with elderly parents. Some people have no clue what their parents financial situation is (I'm talking people in late 60's, 70 etc) and often it is only known when they die. That's a bad time to deal with such matters.

$2500/month... That would buy a $250,000.00 4-5 bedroom 3 bath house in Austin, TX. In Ohio (where I grew up), that would buy you about 1/4 of the state. Hehehehe 😀

<< BTW, rent in my area is not as bad as San Francisco. Typical three bedroom is $2500/month, or so. >>
