hey guys, do you guys get charged by Cingular for incoming text messages? I used to be on AT&T's old TDMA service, and was NEVER chaged for inbound, only 10 cents per outbound, but seeing as AT&T is kaput, i had to sign up with Cingular's GSM.

Anyone know if this really is true? Seems ridiculous to me.

I can't remember if it's when you actual open it or if you just receive it. But yeah, i was charged for one when i opened it (but not sure if i would have been charged had i not opened it)

same on t-mob. you receive it AND open it, you pay 5 cents. you can delete the msg and you don't get charged.

wow, that's insane!!! it costs as much to send as to receive?!?!? i wonder if anyone's had success being a long time AT&T customer, convincing them to allow free inbound?

I get unlimited text messaging with my 30/month sidekick plan. I send my brother tons of them on his Verizon phone :D (he has a limited number).

I'm in the same boat. I went to shop for a replacement phone recently and was told that when I buy a new phone, I would have to change plans. I have a sweet rate plan right now and wouldn't give it up for anything. I learned that I can simply buy a phone elsewhere and swap SIM cards...

Yup. I did a carry over too. I still get 10 free texts a month.

My buddy went all the way over to orange. Now he gets pissed when I send him a message!

Sorry dude. Your plan just sucks.

I really wish Verizon would go with unlimited text messaging.. There are some months where I go through 3000 or more texts, and some months where I barely use 500.. The largest text plan they offer right now is 2500, which isn't bad, but why pay 20 a month to use a couple hundred messages on the slow months?
