I set up a pc for my wife at her office and would like to set up a pass word to access the pc . On my pc at my job there is an icon on the sys tray , click it and the pc goes to sleep , with a password required to re access it .

In other words her pc remains on . She is in and out of the office . She wants to p/w protect it .

Is it a standalone PC, or is it in a domain? What version of WinXP, pro or home?

One way is to right-click My Computer > Manage > Local Users & Groups > Users. Right-click each user account and give it a password. The normally-hidden Administrator account deserves one too, if you're trying to make it somewhat secure against casual access.

Now that the accounts have passwords, you could simply enable the screensaver and checkmark the box for "Show Welcome screen on yadda yadda." Give it a screensaver engagement time that works for her, like 15 minutes or whatever. If she wants to lock it at the Welcome screen at will, then use the WindowsKey + L combo to do a Switch User (I think that'll work even with just one user account besides Administrator, anyway, try it out). Whether you actually switch users or not, it should park on the Welcome screen and require the password to get back in.

Any good?
