Man dies after being pulled into asphalt grinder in Corona

A 34-year-old Anaheim man died this week after he got caught on the conveyor belt of a mobile asphalt crusher and pulled into the grinder, authorities said.

Rolando Anaya became entangled in the conveyor belt around noon Monday at an asphalt plant in the 25000 block of Maitri Road in Corona, according to the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner.

Kathleen Hennessey of Cal-OSHA told the Riverside Press Enterprise that Anaya was working near a conveyor belt underneath an asphalt grinder and "got caught on the conveyor belt and pulled into ... the grinder."

Cal-OSHA inspectors who visited the plant have issued an order prohibiting further work "until the conditions that the inspectors are concerned about are fixed," Hennessey told the newspaper.

I imagine that would be incredibly painful for like 15 seconds.

That's not so bad. Not a very noble way to die, but I could think of much worse ways.

Well, if he went in head first it wouldn't be too bad, compared to feet first at least.

Talk about bringing everything to a grinding halt. I hear his next of kin were really crushed by the news.

So...you're saying...he's the guy who put the "ass" in asphalt?

Sucks. I worked the plants when I was an apprentice. There's a shit-ton of terrible ways to die in them. One of the other first-year apprentices died during my first year when he fell feet-first into a large jaw crusher.

Ugh.

Is this forum turning into reddit where everyone makes tiring puns?

reminds me of the series "The Tutors"

The king had one guy executed for something and the sadistic bastards in the tower of London gave the guy a choice on how to die. the choice was to be lowerd down head first or feet first into a caldron of boiling oil....

god, what a choice.

As long as you fall in head first, you're good. Leg first, oof. There's a lot of real estate between your heart/lungs and your feet.

So, I think we need a picture of an asphalt grinder for consideration....I really dont think I have seen one!

Edit - side note, the community lost a little 4 yr old boy yesterday who was killed by a tractor pulling one of those big grass movers...terrible news and I really feel for the kids family....his cousins were there looking out for him at the park and saw it all....
