In this thread I will bitch about my 2% rent hike

Blah $1200 is more than enough, I don't wanna pay another $25!! Couldn't even swing a free carpet cleaning out of the deal.

What costs more each year for home/building/apartment ownership? Property taxes?

and in this post i will proclaim i don't care

I DON'T CARE!!!!

j/k i feel for you man......as if it weren't enough already

Yeah renting sucks. Living with your parents sucks too. Either way you feel like you are getting screwed. Just save up as much as you can and go buy your first house.

Negatory. Money is close to deflating right now.

WOW! I own my home. Single, 3 BR, 1.5 Bath, about 1800 sq ft. on a decent sized lot (60' x80') with off street parking in a residential neighborhood for $324/month.

correct, Greenspan has stated that he fears long term deflation at this point.

How about a nearly 8% rent hike? Landlord just informed us recently that our rent was going up also. $125 increase from $1600 to $1725/mo, effective July 1st. 🙁

man 8% blows. I should buy a house but the truth is that if I ever lost my job (and layoffs are frequent) I would probably just pack up and move to another part of the country so I don't really want to be tied down like that.

Yeah, our rent went up almost 100 last year...and if I stayed again this coming year, it'd probably be just as more. sucks.

Look at it from the landlord's perspective.
- CA property taxes are THROUGH THE ROOF this year.
- Most of the time the majority of the money goes to paying for the mortgage on the property
- Redondo beach, heck the entire South Bay is a very competitive and increasingly desireable housing area. If you want to pay less, move somewhere else. The landlords are not trying to screw you, this is the only way they can make money.

I finally broke the 5 year hump at my apartment, which means that effective Aug 1, my rent will go down ten dollars per month, and never increase.

Holy crap. Do the jobs pay more to reflect the cost of living?

thankfully, yes, but it is still hard to dole out that much cash each month for a studio...

I meant in general, not this year specifically. Generally rent will go up because the price of everything increases.

Still? The Central Bank is basically giving money away at this point; is there anything that can be done at all?
