In this day and age, it gets increasingly difficult finding time for reading books...

I used to read a book or two every week when I was in H.S. I began getting on internet in my sophmore year of high school but it didn't get most of my at-home attention. In college it began stealing my time quite a lot and now I read a book once every few months. So how do you all find time for reading books? And I am also wondering if this is the same for everyone else, hence the poll. Cheers 🙂
 
i usually read on my commute to work. that's the way it's been for me for years. it could possibly change if i ever get intarweb connection on the bus.

Thats why I wish i could take the train into work..that time would be so much better spent reading/listening to music then driving.

My reading has not gone up or down. I don't read a ton but I enjoy reading.

But this might be because I've had the internet since I was like 7...
 
A lot of the reading i do is from articles on the internet. I read quite a bit up until high school which was a few years after i had gotten the internet.

I think that taking high school English classes took the fun out of reading for me when we had to analyze everything.
 
I still ready daily - there's always time, just needs to be reallocated from less rewarding/beneficial/useful activities.
 
I used to read quite a bit, its literally been 2 or 3 years since I've read an actual book for entertainment purposes.
 
sure its harder to read now then it was when i was younger. I also did not have a job,kids,house to take care of,etc

so yeah i had LOTS of free time.


kinda silly to compare what you could do in HS to what you can do as an adult (even college)
 
Increased. Because of the internet I can get recommendations on picking up some absolutely fantastic Sci-Fi/Fantasy books. If not for DaveSimmons, I don't think I would've ever gotten into the Malazan Book of the Fallen Series, along with the Song of Ice and Fire series as a recommendation from others. I don't even have room for most of my books now because I've picked up so many from reading recommendations here.
 
i seriously can only read when im on the toilet... and now that ive got a mini pc & wireless (EEEPC) , thats bitten into my reading time

the other time i read is on the airplane, but im starting to get sleepy on flights nowaday

damn you cable television, damn you internet!!!!!!!!
 
I took the train to work for like 3 years and during that time I did a ton of reading. At least a book a week or two weeks. Since I moved and stopped taking the train (8 months ago), I've read a grand total of two books. And both of those were in the first two months after I moved, so I was still in the habit. In the past six months I haven't read a book.

Hmmm, yes there's always time but at the same time trying to keep my attention on a book seems harder than doing stuff online. For example, I can continuously surf the web and not get bored for 4-5 hours but when it comes to reading a book, my attention span is less than an hour. I keep reading it but won't really get anything out of it...

Definitely, but as I mentioned above, back in the day I could read a book for 10 hours straight without eating/drinking/going to the restroom... these days I cannot keep reading for more than an hour... I also get sleepy when I am reading a book (even if I like the story). Any ideas on this?

Yeah, reading reviews, getting recommendations is a pro for the internet but you could do that back in the day as well. Here in Turkey we have quite a few book review magazines published monthly. I remember checking those out before I decide on a new book... so I think that didn't really change anything for me.

Yeah, commuting via public transportation is a great to catch up on books. I sometimes listen to audiobooks as I drive.
 
It didn't drop off with internet usage, it dropped off in college. The time I had to read was stuck to textbooks and manuals and I never quite picked it up again after graduation.
