I HAVE A KT7-RAID MOTHERBOARD.MY PC SPEC IS AS FOLLOWS.

AMD 850MHZ T/BIRD
256M PC100 RAM
GEFORCE 2 MX
SB LIVE 5.1
2 HARD DRIVES
1 DVD-ROM DRIVE
1 CD-WRITER DRIVE

EVERYTIME I TURN THE POWER TO MY PC OFF FROM THE MAINS AND TURN IT BACK ON IT DOES NOT DETECT MY DVD-ROM CD-WRITER DRIVES.WITH MAINS POWER STILL CONNECTED I HAVE TO THEN DISCONNECT THE IDE AND POWER CABLES FROM THE REAR OF MY DRIVES AND RECONNECT THE CABLES AGAIN AND BOOT THE PC.THIS WAY THE DRIVES ARE DETECTED.THE DRIVES ARE CONNECTED TO MY IDE2 CABLE WITH THE HARD DRIVES (I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH THESE) CONNECTED TO THE IDE1 CABLE.I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING I POSSIBLY CAN TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM BUT HAVE HAD NO LUCK.I HAVE EXCHANGED THE MOTHERBOARD BUT THE PROBLEM STILL PERSISTS.
CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE SHED SOME LIGHT ON THIS MATTER AND PUT MY MIND TO PEACE.I WILL BE VERY GRATEFUL FOR ANY FEED BACK.
THANKING EVERYONE KINDLY IN ADVANCE.

Dude, never, never, never post in all caps. Now as to your problem, try swapping around the drives and switching which ones slave/master etc. See if that fixes the problem. Other then that I have no idea.

I would go to the bios and check to see if it is set right.

I don't know the bios you have, but try setting the IDE secondary to AUTO. (Master & Slave)

Also look for the newest bios as sometimes this is fixed in revisions.

Good luck.

(I don't think I would use God's name to help with a dvd & cd-rom detection problem)

Chill out dude,
Don't panic......be patient!
That's all part of the fun of doing it yourself...............?
If you RMA'd the mb and it still does it, then.......chances are it was not a faulty mb...(duh)
I don't have a CD-RW but I just read on another forum that they do not like to be set as slave....
You have so many IDE choices w/the KT7-R.........try using a different ide than the hdd...and make sure it is set master....maby just use one hdd until sorted out?
I have been cautioned by an expert (my brother?) to NEVER plug and un-plug drives/cables hot........
Hope some of this helps, I'm sure not an expert, but I'm having lots of fun........a back-up pc also helps..!

You might try removing the Soundblaster Live card and drivers. I have a similar system and the KT7 with Soundblaster live combination is a real headache. They just don't like each other. Remember to remove all of the SB software programs too.

YellowSnow,
I have the SB live value and it works great w/KT7-R and Athlon 700MHz.
I did a custom install and did not use the multi-media program(whatever?) from the SB cd.
WinME has a multi-media program and so does my ATI Raedon DDR install cd........
I did not think my system needed three different multi-media programs conflicting w/each other?
One of the tech's I ask said the "last one installed is the default".....?
I can't remember which pci slot I used, and I'm not a home now to check....?
Just some thoughts......
