BentValve,

Of the people that posted pics, I like yours the best. I'm wondering if that method of construction is resistant to racking. Without bracing, it seems like it would bend to the side without much pressure. Is 3/4 " threaded rod easy to find?

Why thank you. It is very sturdy! You can find all of the materials at Home Depot . Bracing is not needed, if you went much wider than what I have then I would just add another shelf, this would be your bracing.

BTW its not my idea, have a look here ..

Build your own desk...HERE

I'm sorry. No offence but that has to be the worst desk I have ever seen. I'm impressed you went down the "I'll make my own desk" line, but it is awefull IMO... :)

Go screw yourself, you are jealous cause I have more money than you do. Besides why did you wait to post just now???????? Huh?? Those pics were wiped off my site several days agao you stupid ass.

I said No offence and u seem to be offended for which I'm sorry. The fact that you go and tell me to "Screw Myself" would perhaps indicate that you are immature, so I'll forgive you for your remark. Also, how in gods name do you know you have more money than me? Also shows your immature to have to say such a thing, but to reply to your statement in the same way would bring me down to your level. Someone in these forums has a very apt signature, it goes something like this. "Don't argue with an idiot, as they will bring you down to their level and beat you with experience!". (You have your own business as well, I wonder what your customer care is like!) You should really learn to control yourself. The reason I posted today was that I saw your pic when it was first posted, but had to go out. I only noticed that the thread was still alive so hence the late post.

I did say that I was impressed you went down the "make it yourself route" which is commendable. Necessity is the mother of invention they say.

My statement was only my opinion and in business you should learn to accept that people do have opinions which may well differ from yours. I wish I could post a pic of my setup so you could pull mine to bits, because unlike you I can take criticism albeit not constructive.

:) Good luck in your business. ;)

I agree my use of words were poor but it doesn't take a genius to figure out that you were trying to start something with your line.......
""No offence but that has to be the worst desk I have ever seen"
Any normal person would have left out "worst desk I have ever seen" out of basic human respect.........what was your point of posting? Why was it needed? How can it help the people of this good forum?

Ask yourself these questions and look back at this thread....you started it.

Indeed I took the low road and responded...it was not easy to ignore such a line as this.

Am I over-reacting? Maybe but no matter what I think others in this post will agree with me that what you said was stated just to put me down and no other reason.

Anyone else agree with me or I am I way off here?

I'm gettin this desk from staples tomorrow. My current desk is fine, but I no longer need all the space it provided now that I'm using a 1900FP instead of my G420 19''. With 15 off 75 and a $20 coupon I have laying around, it'll be nice and cheap too :)

Bentvalve, your desk looks fine. Perfect utility. Its obvious you knew what you wanted in a desk and went ahead and built it to your specs. Sometimes utility is better than aesthetics. :)

Chiz:

I have that exact same desk that you are getting. It's an excellent desk IMHO. Very study with my "heavy as hell" 19" monitor. I am not that fond of keyboard and mouse trays, but the height of the one on the desk is perfect.

Damn nice price too I might add.. :)

The highest quality pc desk/tables/carts that I have used and assembled are here:

AnthroCart

Great product line, but they are NOT cheap .......... look for the stuff "On Sale".
For home use, stay with the smaller size carts.

Chiz, I have that exact desk right now and really like it. It has enough room for my 19" CRT, scanner, laser printer, router, dsl modem, headphones, phone, speakers, CDs, and bunch other junk I keep on my desk. The keyboard tray is actually large enough to fit both a KB and mouse with room to spare unlike most trays which is another plus.

One change I made however is to take off the wheels. It was just a little too high for me (I'm short) and I didn't need the mobility. After lowering it by removing
the wheels it's alot more comfortable. Another thing is the keyboard tray doesn't lock enough so it tends to go back inside the desk too easy, I use a velcro strap to lock its position on the outside when I need to.

I got it from Staples for about $80 + tax using a coupon also. For that price, I don't think any other desk beats it. I definitely recommend it.

Chiz, my brother has that desk and it's excellent. I considered getting one for myself, but then I saw this and I knew I had to have it. The keyboard drawer on my current desk is just too small for the giant 1990 clicker keyboard I have + a mouse. I also need more room for a 3rd monitor. :)

Sweet, thanks for the input guys, instead of going to Staples to check it out, I took the lazy route and ordered online sight-unseen b/c of your reviews :)

Total came to $64.94 shipped with $15 off $75 and the $20 GC/Coupon I got from the Maxtor 80GB HDD deal (they gave me $20 GC b/c of a questionable rebate which I didn't want to deal with).

The design looks great, I really like the 2nd tier which will allow me to use my M$ Sidewinder FF2 w/out moving my KB and mouse. I also like the 2 platforms to the side, which will let me put my speakers there and get rid of my speaker stands. I just need to find a place to stick my center channel speaker; may need to place it below my LCD (mwahahha something I coulda never done with my G420 without crushing it.)

that type of construction is really popular in the home theater realm. at one time everyone was making stereo and tv racks that way. good sturdy units, altho i'm not sure i would like having the bottom shelf without a place to put my feet. the mdf is pretty solid stuff, i think i've seen ppl putting up to a 36" tv on it without bowing. if i remember correctly you can get it in different thicknesses, and double up if need be.

edit: oh yeah, i got my desk from an office surplus sell off. i think i paid 30 bucks for it, very big, holds my 21" monitor (and at one time also a 20" tv set) and microsoft natural pro keyboard with lots of room.
