Any ideas? 3+ HDMI ports required, for my PS3, xbox 360, HD DISH receiver, and DVD player.

1080P is a requirement as well.

Any ideas? I am more then willing to buy used, if it's a helluva deal. The only real offbrand I want is Westinghouse, otherwise toshiba/Pioneer/LG/sony/Samsung, etc are all on the top of my list. I want to get something with much better quality then my last 1080i offbrand LCD.

Thanks for the input :)

EDIT : update!

After all of you guys blabbering about 720P/1080P...and what I have been reading..and the lack of 'deals' on craiglist I just opted to get a TC-P50X1

I went and saw it at best buy, it's a nice looking set. I noticed the difference between 720/1080p (the set next to it was 1080p)...but I guess i'll live, since I am 10ish feet away.

Had to do a little work, but it worked out nicely for only $695~~

865.88 $ initial price
799 $ price matched
850 $ after PM w/ tax (I assume tax still applies)
765 $ after 10% PM from sears
695 after bing cashback

right under my budget :).

for fun...I took a crappy/quick picture of the set

That far away you're going to need all the size you can get. I'd shoot for 50" minimum. You may need to expand your budget. ;)

no 1080p :( What are the real advantages of plasma, over LCD, or vice versa? Plasmas seem to get really hot.

haha, I had an offbrand 37" that was perfect. I think 42 might be TOO big, but I would like a 42, IF possible.

Should I be looking at 120hz, or is 60hz fine still?

42" is far too small for 12'.

At that distance, you'll barely even notice the improvement to 720p, much less 1080p. You want a 50" plasma at least.

Seriously, 37" was perfect for the distance...I would not mind a 42" though, 50" is out of my price range if I want 1080p.

nice tv, I will keep it in mind...but I am hoping for some less power consumption :p, like an LCD...I figured i'd consider a plasma, because they may be cheaper now.

Take a look at the Samsung PN42B450. They made a whole lot of improvements over last year's model (which was really good in its own right) to where it beats the Panasonic in most respects. I can get it for $699 locally. In your price range, you'll be hard pressed to find a better display. It's not 1080p, but like everyone else has mentioned, at 12', you wouldn't be able to tell the difference anyway.

vivi at 12 feet you should thnk about 50" and at that distance your eyes wont notice a 720p set like the one I linked to in your price range. I'm planning on going 50" inch with a 8ft view distance and take my shitty 37" westy to work.

Yeah, it looks very nice :). A 50" would be nice, but it's gotta be 1080P, and I want to keep within my budget, so I have to pick up a 37-42, unless I can get some decent used.

Are there specific brands that are not wall mountable?

I would think they should all be wall mountable but I don't really know. I buy a lot of shit used but I wouldn't go used/demo on a plasma so i could do proper calibration.

You keep saying this, but at 12 feet you're not going to be able to tell the difference between 720p and 1080p on a 37-42" TV. I just don't want you to end up like this guy.

Well, the thing is, I have had an LCD that's 37" for about 3 years, 1080i for my movies/360/ps3 and it's been fine...I can tell the difference between when it's on 720 and 1080 during movies/gameplay.

I wouldn't mind a 42-50, but my budget, requiring 1080p will most likely not cover that...so I will have to get 37" most likely!

I bolded the part in question. When you say you can tell the difference between 720 and 1080, what exactly do you mean? Are you changing the settings on your PS3 to output 720 instead of 1080 for a BD? If that's the case, then I can see why you would see the difference. If you have a 1080p TV, it will look better displaying a source that's the same as its native resolution. Also, a 1080-resolution source like BD will look better when being output at that resolution even if it's displayed on a 720p TV.

What I'm getting at is that you probably can't see the difference in resolution, per se, just the difference in scaling. If you compare a 37" 1080p TV to a 42" 720p from 12 feet, I doubt you'll notice the resolution difference, but I KNOW you'll notice the size difference.

It's going to be hard to get a name-brand TV in that price range, other than when the 42" Panasonic plasma goes on sale (the best TV in this price range IMO). Here are a few options near your price range:

I've got a 360, ps3, HD receiver, dvd player, and a VCR, all but the VCR hook up via HDMI...I had to sell my old TV because it only had one HDMI jack and I am sick of swapping them.

Yeah, I have sat down and swapped between 720, 1080i/p just to see the difference, and it just looks cleaner, even on my cheapo Emprex TV.

I like that Toshiba, pretty nifrty...the only thing i'm also concerned about now is wall mountability. It HAS to have the VEX pattern on the back for my wall mount.

I would love a 42", but would live with a 37".

Isn't plasma a energy hoag? 50% more power consumption then a LCD, typically?

Yeah, this time I want to try to stay with a name brand TV.
