In the forthcoming US presidential election, what will be your key issues?

Considering I work in health care...well thats my number one, Health Care, Medicare/Medicaid.....especially since my hospital relies on Medicare/Medicaid in a big way. We lose up to 10% of our revenue because of patients without money or adequate insurance, or just having no insurance. I want to know what can a candidate do to A.) stop the insane rising costs, B.) stop the closing and consolidation of so many hospitals because of cost and whatnot, and C.) some sort of health coverage for all americans at an affordable rate for all.

I would say reforming welfare, immigration, a strategy for Iraq, rethinking social security, and other social problems/concerns such as gambling, abortion, gay marriage, and stem cell research.

The major issues aren't of much concern to me. I know they should be, but I have health insurance, I'm not concerned with wealth, most social issues don't apply to me (abortion rights, gay marriage), and I think many other major issues are created out of thin air to have something to bitch about.

My main concern is foreign policy. I have no problem telling the rest of the world to fsck off, becase I know they can get unreasonably angry with us at times. But these days I feel they are justified in their anger and I'd like to see our image restored in the world, along with that I'd like to support our actions in the world. That would be a very nice feeling. So foreign policy issues are the most important to me.

Foreign Policy
Health care

in that order

I can forgive some other domestic issues...foreign policy is KEY right now for me. I think we do need to work on the USA domestically, but its hard when took a big pile of crap on the world...

I'd have to agree, and I think magomago said it best.

Foreign Policy - While the world needs to know America is strong, the idea that showing strength everywhere, refusal to compromise, etc. needs a fixing.

Budget - Cut Taxes and Spend blows almost as much as Tax and Spend. Find old programs that can be cut, look for ways to improve efficiency, etc.

Political Reform - Reduce the power of lobbyists & cut pork.

Iraq - Someone who'd follow the Iraq Study Group or some other competent, bipartisan panel's decisions would be nice.

Afghanistan - Need to get this done right. Turning it over to NATO was a step in the right direction, but too little is still being accomplished, combined with a still-functioning Taleban

Immigration.
Tax reform - ditch the income tax and death tax
More freedom of choice in health care (more heathcare savings accounts please!)
More freedom in investments (get rid of all these 401k and look a likes - just one simple tax free investment system would be nice... why have so many?)
Welfare reform
Iraq
Terrorism, they are coming back
Iran

Cant we take a year off?

btw the biggest for me is a candidate who will

1. Stop govt expansion
2. Fix the immigration situation in this country
3. Work on medicaid and SS
4. Continue to prosecute the WoT and keep these numbnutz on their heels.

The rest of the issues in this world(gay marriage, anna nicole smith, WoD, Estate Taxes, Rich vs Poor, universal healthcare) are all wedge issues that never get anything done except motivate fools to vote thinking somebody will actually work on it.

I think the 4 points above is more than enough for a presidential candidate and the children in congress to work on during his\her first term. I figure they can tackle 1 issue a year.

Foreign Policy. To call it Iraq would be to ignore the global ideology that crosses all borders. I want someone who gets accurate results in fighting this global war. Bush had the right idea in Iraq, but it was both the wrong target and screwed up rebuilding. We?ve paid a high price to achieve nothing.

Immigration. For the melting pot to function, and our homeland to be preserved, the numbers must be restored to 1964 levels, and the laws and enforcement MUST match them. We?ve gone from 100,000 legal immigrants a year to 1,000,000+ legal immigrants and 500,000 illegals entering every year.

A true conservative (Libertarian). I want someone who believes in liberty over government authoritarianism and dictatorship. Someone who will abolish the Patriot Act and restore the rights and authority of the people over Congress and the President. The first step to doing this is to abolish federal taxation of the people, and transfer that authority BACK to the states as it used to be.

I?ll tell you right now I?ll never see what I want in office.

Often they do, if you do not know the context in which the vote was given. Many times a congressman (or woman) will vote against a bill, let's call it the "Puppy Act," that made euthanasia by blowtorch illegal for puppies. Well what kind of sick-bastard congressman (or woman) would vote against that? Do they want puppies to be euthanised by blowtorch?!?! No, there was a provision in there that gave every cat a gold identification tag, provided by the government. A provision that was thrown in by another congressman (or woman) who is in the pockets of the feline lobby.

Okay, stupid examples, but I think you see my point. Votes do not necessarily show a lawmaker's stance on the issue.

Getting some pragmatic leadership for our country. We can't afford anymore ideology driven mismanagement and outright botching of so many things.

Hillary (JOKES) gets elected and after shes sworn in her first act as President is to bring the past administration to justice.

Now that would set a precedent!

1st and 2nd amendment issues, foreign policy, local and global economy, government spending, health care, Social Security (and the fact that I will never get to use it)

Any canidate that does the following is rejected:
1) Is pro gun control in any way
2) Voted for the PATRIOT Act
3) Has made consistently retarded comments about technology
4) Views the environment as not being a problem
