In-take or Out-take fan

My system is working without fans (except the HSF, duh 😉), and I need to add a fan to it. Should it be an in-take or an out-take fan ?

If you're going to limit yourself to one case fan, I'd recommend an intake fan at the lower front of the case. Ideally you should also have an exhaust fan at the upper rear of the case. Adding that second fan should create a nice airflow through the case.

Might be a good idea to install filters too. I'm using those stove oil filters. Halved then and cut out the required size. THey're fantastic as filters.

Making the inflow higher than the outflow? How would you go about achieving that? Getting a fan capable of higher cfm as intake fan? What't the theory behind this?

Higher air pressure within the case, keeps dust out, better circulation too although it also depends on your placement of the fans.

For the intake fan filters, i use <Thermo Compact EcoFill Filters> Cooker Hood filter.

They come in 2 huge pieces. I took one of them out. then split them out right through the middle to obtain another thinner piece. Then cut out the required size.

That stuff is fantastic, air flow is nearly as strong as before going through it and it's fantastically effective. Wiped the inside of my case and couldn't find dust.

In contrast, my HD cooler which was using it's own packaged filter was doing hell to my HD. I took it off and was horrible to see the amount of dust in the bay and on the HD. So off the default filter went and i cut another piece for it. Best of all, this oil filter was free of charge for me since i had it in the kitchen cupboard. hehe

I have 3 BIG fans in my case (one is panaflow) and afther MANY experiments and research I have placed one (the panaflow) and the bottom-side (not at the front - but instead the side case cover) and the other two at the hole where the power supply was.

I set them all to intake - I have small holes on the side covers of my case and I had to remove one side-cover.

But now I NEVER see my case temp rises above my room temp - withc may be as high at 37C !!
All due to the intake fans - ALWAYS go for all-intake - but also leave small holes for the air to go out - If you leave holes that are to big - the effect is lost (my motherboard is perfectly blocking the one-side-open case of mine - so it is perfect!
