What in particular is better about the eVGA's? I'm trying to get my parts for a new build ordered today. If the eVGA's are supposed to be in stock then I'll wait. If its only a matter in price and the eVGA's arent garunteed to be available today I will probably just go with the XFX.

dang it... I broke down and bought one... its going to replace my two 6800dts in SLI that i bought years ago 😀

Deffinitely a worthwhile upgrade dajeepster!
I think this cards going to be a big seller for nVidia especially with Crysis and UT3 coming out next month!

The only thing I don't like about EVGA is that the warranty is non-transferable, and that you have only 30 days from purchase date (from an authorized retailer) to register it online to qualify. That's right, you know all those "new" unopened EVGA video cards you see on ebay, they come with absolutely no warranty.

XFX comes with two lifetime warranties and with no time restrictions on product registration, increasing its resale value, to me anyway.

EDIT: man! i can't spell worth a damn today!

The transition to PCIe 2.0 won't be anything like the move from AGP to PCIe. The cards and motherboards are backwards and forwards compatible. PCIe 1.0 and 1.1 compliant cards can be plugged into a PCIe 2.0 motherboard, and PCIe 2.0 cards can be plugged into older motherboards.

What do you guys (& gals) think? Pull the trigger now or wait a few days for all the retailers to get them in and see if the price drops?

Time for my trusty 6800 GS to go to my daughter.

Price will drop, but it maybe a few weeks rather than days. The new GTS is due out soon along with ATI's cards.

According to AT, the price of stock 8800GT 515 MB will drop to $200 as stated by the VP of Nvidia. 8800GT 256 MB will be lower than $200, available in late November.

I have an old 7900GT which is really good for my use, but I have been itching to upgrade for about a year, but the 8800GTS or GTX did not appeal to me because of the heat, price and double slot card design.

For me this is the card to buy so I do not want to wait. Besides I want keep it for at least a couple years, so over 2 years, it's money well spent.

Not only that. you are allowed to overclock and add your own fan. My BFG card was defective. About 20% of my startups would result in very fuzzy text. I got rid of it in the end by selling it on ebay and trading for an eVGA. If you make sure you transfer your warranty, you're fine. I talked to the seller about it.

the egg is OOS now... But the charged my CC already... so hopefully I'm getting mine in the next couple of days...(crosses fingers)

I don't mean to further deviate from the thread subject, but what do you mean by "make sure you transfer your warranty, you're fine"? Nowhere at EVGA can you do such a thing, that I know of, and I looked high and low when I investigated this subject in the past. This is straight from EVGA's warranty policy web page:

"For our retail Graphics Card and Mainboard products purchased on or after June 22, 2005, EVGA will provide a limited lifetime warranty to the original purchaser of each retail product that the product will not suffer, in material or workmanship, from any defect that adversely affects the performance of the product. This limited lifetime warranty is valid for the life of the retail product, so long as the original purchaser owns the product, so long as the original purchaser owns the product, based upon the following conditions:

[*]All EVGA Products purchased ON or AFTER November 1, 2006 MUST be registered within 30 days from ORIGINAL DATE OF PURCHASE to receive limited lifetime warranty. (All products not registered within 30 days will ONLY receive a 1 year limited warranty.)

[*]Removal and or Defacing of Serial/Part number sticker(s) on ANY EVGA products WILL void ALL warranties.

[*]ALL Defective products sent in for RMA replacement MUST INCLUDE A COPY OF THE ORIGINAL INVOICE / RECEIPT. (Products NOT including invoice/receipt will be returned to the customer at customer?s expense.)

[*]Limited Lifetime Warranty is for all retail Graphics Card and Mainboard products ending in the part numbers A1, AR, AX, BR*, BX*, DR, DX, FR, FX, SG, SL, or S2.* [Replacement products are shipped out as ?BR or ?BX and will carry the same limited lifetime warranty that your original purchase had based on your registration.]

[*]All retail Graphics Card and Mainboard products ending in the part number K1 receive a limited 3 year warranty when registered within 30 days from ORIGINAL DATE OF PURCHASE.

[*]There is no physical damage to the PCB, GPU/chipset, or components that are caused by: Damage due to improper installation, damage during modification of any kind, damage during any type of Aftermarket cooling installation, and water damage of any kind.

[*]All replacement products shipped out for replacement are recertified by EVGA to uphold the quality and guarantee of our products.
All RMA products will require the customer to pay for shipping to EVGA. EVGA will cover all return shipping back for the RMA replacement with (Ground) Shipping through UPS."

Read the page for yourself. Nowhere does it say a second owner qualifies for any valid warranty.

XFX is very clear about their double Lifetime warranty:

"If you ever decide to sell or give the card away to someone, we?ll still honor the protection plan for the second owner as well. They just need to register the card with us. You get the protection AND the added value of being able to pass along a full warranty."

Yep -- EVGA is best if you plan to self-upgrade (step-up), but XFX if you want to sell your old card...

8800 GTX has only dropped $100 from the date of its launch and its been out for about a year now. In graphic card age, that is an eternity! It has to do with mainly the fact that AMD (Radeon) hasn't rolled out its GTX killer and therefore hasn't pressed Nvidia with the need to drop its prices as it has customarily done so (6xxx, 7xxx series) . The only exception is the 8800 Ultra, which did drop in price not because of the competition, because not many will dish out $800+ for a nominal gain over the 8800GTX). So quietly, IMHO Nvidia has denied us of our traditional price decrease that we used to enjoy every fiscal quarter! While I wouldn't go at lengths to say that Nvidia is price gouging, it will never benefit us, the consumers, if Nvidia goes unchallenged. Kinda like the days when we were "ok" with paying $1,000 for 66mhz Intel.

It is not so much that Nvidia is doing everyone a justice of introducing a high-end card for a bargain price, it just that we are just receiving what was really ovedue. Also, the new 8800GT with a new and smaller die process is priced at $200~$250 to make room for the NEW high-end card that will replace the 8800GTS which will be priced around $599 again....

Having said that, I'd like to tell Section8, No the price will not decrease, 8800GT is the NEW mid-range card (with a above the usual mid-range price tag) which is probably in prelude to the NEW high-end card with the new smaller die process.

Crysis is the next generation of games... If 8800 Ultra-SLI cannot play that game in all its glory, I'd say its just better to wait for 9xxx generation of high-end cards based on their NEW die process to come out. It really does not make any sense for anyone to buy 8800GTX or 8800GT (unless u don't mind not playing Crysis).

I rambled on for quite a bit but my main point is that only thing that will GENUINELY induce price drop is a healthy and aggressive competition from AMD (ATI) which we haven't seen in a year. Unless AMD (ATI) steps up, we will not see the good old days when the video card prices use to drop once every quarter.

Is there going to be an AGP version of this card?

I'm resisting an upgrade to a PCI-E system as I would need to change almost everything from my current system (P4-EE, 2GB PC4000, X800 Pro, 4x80 IDE in RAID 5, 400W PS) and I don't want to spend the money.
