So by me saying "Can you add a sixth phone line impromtu while the phone company is out there?" was not my fault in the communication?

I just wanted to make sure I have been using this word correctly all these years.

You don't need impromtu in the sentence, it makes more sense without it.

My English teacher said one time "It is unecessary to use big words, you will either end up making a fool out of yourself or a fool out of the person you are talking to. Either way, the point of your comment will be lost when they are digging through a dictionary to find out what one insignificant word means."

She would be so disappointed in me. 🙁

Riiiiighhhht? A parent lee you need to dumb that down for me to understand what you just said.

It was a simple question "Would you eat the moon if it were made of BBQ'd spare ribs?, Just say yes and will move on."

Do you honestly think that is proper use of the English language - even forgiving the previously discussed misuse of the word immpromptu?

Not exactley sure how I worded the whole sentence, it was on a voice mail.

Just the fact that you told her to add one makes it NOT impromptu since there was future planning. You may have made an impromptu decision to tell her though.

If I left that message on your voice mail, would have at least an idea of what I meant?

I was pointing out the whole sentence, not just the part between the quotation marks.

So by me saying "..." was not my fault in the communication? 😕

You can honestly read that and only think that a comma might be missing?

"The boss wants a sixth phone line, and he also wants to impress me with his intelligence. Too bad that second part totally backfired on him."

For some reason that situation reminds me of Dilbert.

I knew I would get a little bit of bashing for posting this, but I never thought anyone would actually come up with a good one. I laughed at it. You should submit it.

you hold impromptu meetings... you don't install impromptu phone lines 😉

I use it for that too.

Poor choice on my part using it for phone lines. But my brain must have just used it thinking that it was not a planned situation.

It would have been appropriate were it to be a phone line you only used without prior planning.

😀

I was unaware that everyone in here was so concerned with spellin, grammar and punctuation.
It is reassuring to see such love for the English language.

I suppose a forum should not be looked at as a chat room where you want to get your thoughts across as fast as possible.
