In-place upgrade with OEM version?

I have Retail Windows Vista Home Premium.

I know Microsoft wants me to pay for the Upgrade version if I want to upgrade from Vista and keep my files, settings etc.

But is it technically possible to do the in-place upgrade with an OEM version? I don't care that much about what Microsoft says, most of it is not meaningful in European Union anyways.

Thanks in advance!

You really have that much issue paying less than $200 for something that you'll likely use for upwards of a decade?

What you want to do isn't possible as the installer won't let you do it.

However, I don't understand why you want to do this anyway. A retail upgrade disc for Windows 7 Home Premium from a reputable source always ought to be cheaper than purchasing an OEM Win 7 disc and COA.

Plus, by purchasing a retail upgrade, your license remains retail and you retain the ability to legally move it to another machine in the future (something you aren't legally supposed to do with an OEM copy).
