A good friend of mine started his own decal-cutting business and i told him i'd help him. I'm not charging him for this and hope to use this as a learning experience. Short of hiring somebody else, how would you suggest i get started? Attached at the bottom is what he'd like the site to look like. He has many sample pictures of the work he's done already. Each of the little pictures he wanted as an icon, then they'd link to a page with the appropriate pics.

PLEASE help me :(

the site currently

here's what he wants the site to look like

Thanks for your time and help. BTW, he'll hook you guys up with killer deals if you need any vinyl cut.

i'll take free bumps, thanks :) If anybody can seriously help me though, i'll hook you up with whatever decals you need, within reason.

That scan is hilarious.
But what exactly are you looking for help with? You have a pencil-and-paper mockup. That's the hardest part. Now you just have to implement it in HTML.

Oh, one more thing. Is that a wedge of cheese above the "email" link in the drawing?

This whole page is just a table. If you don't know HTML or Dreamweaver just find a tutorial online. Are you doing the graphics, too?

If he's an artist can't he create a good design for a header of the site so that you can something to start with?

The graphics are a little tougher but there are good free tools like The Gimp (analagous to photoshop) and Sodi Podi and Linkscape which are analagous to Illustrator.

But forget the graphics for now, just see if you can cook up the basic layout.

It would probably be a good idea for your friend to whip up most of the graphics for the site. It will make the site feel like his work. Since he is selling his artistic abilities, they should be displayed throughout his site.

he cuts and prints decals. He isn't by any means artistically inclined. Aside from his decal cutting, he isn't very computer savvy.

use dreamweaver over frontpage... my god front page is horrible evil thing

and the site design... i think it's going to be a little visually cluttered... may i suggest having a simplified main page with some general sections (that then lead you to the more specific sections). you can have a site map page for people that already know where they're going, but the first thing i thought when i saw the scan was "cluttered".

i suggested that and even redrew it (thus the white blotched out area in the far left upper corner), but he'd like to stick with his design if at all possible.
