Hi all,
In need of some advice. After working in the electronics industry with my finger on the pulse of the latest hardware and software developments for 8 years I eventually jumped ship to another industry for more cash.
Although cash is good.... it has left with a tech system that is 4-5 years old and becoming dated. I don’t have time to read all the reviews so looking for some input into where to upgrade.

Currently Using....

  1. Windows Xp based media centre for TV / Movies / Music via an old 32” lcd and a 5500 Logitech surround sound system. Dated but still operational, great sound and not watching much TV these days so 32” is adequate.
  2. Win 7 desktop rig. Decent spec. General day to day usage and 2TB backup HD’s for data, photos etc
  3. Galaxy Young mobile = £70. Stop gap
  4. Not really embraced social media. Haven’t been into the face book concept of link your friend, to your parents, to your work colleagues, to your random acquaintances.... to many lies and secrets ;) . Have been considering other options though, but again never the time to review.
  5. Have stand alone xbox 360, ps3 and wii
My Issues
a) Need a small portable computer but can’t decide between ipad, tablet, £1000 high spec laptop, £300 cheap laptop, transformer (looked great but once it was released thought I needed a big more processing power.) or the new window surface thing.
b) Need to get my important and day to day docs synced somewhere (online I assume since tried usb sticks before and just end up with multiple versions on multiple sticks). Want access between a work laptop which is locked down and can’t install any software, the main rig, any future tablet/laptop and phone.
c) Phone. Bought the cheap galaxy as a stop gap to galaxy s3 and ipod 5 releases. Not blown away by either and as a stand alone I don’t want to spend £500+. Want an integrated system. Phone performs ok, Android is good, texting good, maps good but app interface just not as slick as apple.
d) Not a huge apple fan but have had an iphone 3g before and a touch and enjoyed both. Don’t want to appleify everything like to keep some control.
e) Is window 8 gonna be an option? For desktop / laptop / Tablet / Phone integration and syncing?

Apologies, know there are a load of questions here but just want to engage the collective to see where I start with my upgrades.
