Hi,

I have given up on my old computer and have now decided to buy a new one. I will be making the pc. Anyway I will mainly be using this computer for gaming and programming. I want to play newer games on quite high settings. My knowledge on all things computer parts is pretty basic but my budget is £750 - £800, but would possibly stretch to £850. It will be shipping to the UK and I don’t really have any brand preference so anything really goes. <Edit>From my old computer I will be using, my keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers and wireless wifi dongle</Edit>, I don’t really think that Ill be overclocking anything. The resolution will be 1920X1080, and I plan to order it sometime this week if I can. Thanks for all the help in advance guys.

i5 3550 £165
MSI B75MA-P45 £50
DDR3 1333 8GB £38
7850 £170
Samsung F3 1TB £65
Corsair CX600 £30
Crucal M4 128GB £95
NZXT Tempest 410 Midi Tower £60

Total £673

Oh and I already have a windows 7 disk so wont be needing that either.

Thanks for the replies guys, and yeah I could try making the pc, the parts you listed sound great and cheap for what they are. I probably will not be using an ssd though so this can be gone from the list, making the total to £606, this is well below my budget which is great but is there any other places where it can be improved. I was looking at the motherboard and wanted to know if it would be able to support multiple graphics cards, if not, what would be a recommended motherboard that does. Thanks again and sorry for sounding like a noob :)

PS regarding the windows 7 disk, im not sure if it is, but if not, ill buy another with any leftover money.

I managed to find a cheap CX600, so ill probably be sticking with that, but the case does look great and I think I will get that. I'm looking around at mobos and found an Asus M5A97 PRO AMD 970. Can anyone confirm if this would be a good option to go with. I want the option to add another graphics card in future.

Thanks again guys

Updated the computer, with another motherboard. Looking at each component, will this be enough for my original specification?

The build I posted is pretty much better all around for 50 quid more. You should not under any circumstances drop the SSD. It is the single biggest improvement you can make to your general usage and programming experience.

Oh ok, well I've put it back on the list and the computer is looking really good, I managed to grab a cx600 for £30, which I thought was quite good. Sorry to be a pain but when you said yours was better overall, did you mean that the motherboard was better as well?
I'm only asking because of the whole crossfire situation that I would possibly do in future

Have you looked at benchmarks to get a sense of how much you'd gain by going to crossfire in the future? It's not generally necessary on 1920x1080. Unless you're planning to add the second video card within the next 6 months to a year you'll probably get better performance and more bang for your buck by just upgrading to a better GPU down the road.

The motherboard mfenn picked out earlier is fine - the basic idea with motherboards is to choose the least expensive one from a reputable manufacturer with all the features you need and as few of the ones you don't as possible.

Ok guys, I have ordered all of the parts bar the processor, this is going to sound silly but I found an i5 3550 for cheap but it said s1155 instead of lga1155, I feel foolish just asking this, but are these the same thing?

Oh and also, will I need any other cooling mechanisms beside what is already available in the case?
