I want someone to tell me what is so great about their burgers. I'll bet you can't, because they aren't special, they're just another patty of ground beef put on a bun and without the special sauce.

As for their fries, if you let them sit for more than two minutes they are just limp greasy potatoes. I don't care how much you like fries, limp greasy potatoes are not appealing.

Their shakes are great, but too small and far too expensive. When I order a shake I want something substantial, not a little cup of froth.

In-N-Out sucks compared to the other chain burger joints.

So what triggered this ra... Oh nevermind.

Nothing's changed in 60 years?

In N Out has a distinct character in their burgers, partly from their freshness, partly from their special sauce. I still put them over any other fast food burger joint, except maybe shake shack, but definitely five guys. Fuddruckers is horrible. The most indistinct burger I've ever had.

I freaking love In-N-Out. I grew up in CA and every time I go back (or to Vegas) I always get a few double doubles with grilled onions.

What?
I love In-N-Out, and not just because it's fresh. The buns are actually tasty and have the perfect texture. The patties fall apart in the right way, the cheese is a perfect balance, not overbearing.
As a burger fanatic, I try to avoid the "special sauces", mayo or dressings. I love having the the patties complemented by other ingredients, not drown out.
The patties are not over seasoned. Sometimes I like that if a restaurant were to do that right, but with the right beef and cooking, it's not needed.
In-N-Out does tend to overkill on the onions. I only like a couple of rings on mine, and discard the rest. The tomatoes are not just fresh, but probably among the best you'll ever taste.
Again, I don't typically like tomatoes in my burgers, or tomatoes in general. But I love picking them out and eating them by themselves.

The only really bad part is the fries. To clarify, if you eat them right away, they are a Godsend. But even a quick take out and a trip home can ruin this. And no fry in the world microwaves well.

You have to eat the food there. If it's in the bag for 10 minutes, it's meh.

What? You mean not everyone in the world likes everything as much as everyone else?

Blasphemy.

Yea I like onions as much as the next guy but they put too much. I take out some as well. Their burgers are very good. Their fries are ok. Nothing special but you can get them animal style which is good but not for everyone.

They need to season their patties. When I went to In & Out, I felt as if there was no seasoning on anything. Salt brings out the flavour of things, it's like a fundamental rule of cooking, and burgers are no exception (their fries too).

So it was ok, much better than say a McDonalds and whatnot, but it's far from the best burger around.

They were good when I had mine. I also still love a Big Mac.

BTW, I tried an A&W burger today along with their hot dog. They are priced at something like $1.50ea. so I wondered what was special about them. Nothing. I'll try their chili cheese fries next time though. It was an A&W / KFC joint so with the free KFC 2-pc meal I decided to give it a go.

You can always find a better burger but for a semi-large chain, they're one of the best.

For $4 - double double & fries - its a great burger for the price.

I'll take a $6 Carls Jr. Bacon/Guac burger over In N Out any day of the week though as I like the variety but at $7-$8 for a burger meal its quite a bit more spendy.

The Counter in Palo Alto is where it's at. Especially in summer when big-titted sorority chicks from Stanford work there.
But it's one of a kind, not a chain.

Fudd has the best buns hands down, a bad bun will ruin a burger. Also they have a week day special now where u get a 1/3rd pounder for 5 bucks. Far better than any fast food place. Also their cheese sauce > any sliced shit ftw. Fudd also has the best Milk shakes, and the one I go to in San Diego has MELLO YELLO on tap! M.Y. for teh wins! No other place in Cali has Mello Yello

In-N-Out is awesome, I only remember one time where I didn't enjoy my burger and thought it tasted bad. Mind you I've been there hundreds of time. Jack In The Box has awesome burgers (Bacon Ultimate Cheeseburger!!!) but very much lacks consistency. In N Out is pretty expensive for the size burger you get, but the quality is outstanding. 4x4 Protein style is one hellova burger. I'm lucky enough to live in the I.E. so when I want INO, but don't want to deal with the crowds and lines. I can go to Bakers, very similar burger. Better fries, and Habanero Ketchup.

Bakers FTW!

Paulney, we have a Counter in Corona, I'm sure it's the same one. DELICIOUS. And the burgers are weighed after cooking, so my 2/3rd lber was actually 2/3's of a pound, not a lot smaller due to cooking.

I have had the Animal Fries, I took the left overs home and ate them micro'd the next day.

Not only do I agree, but I had to take a massive shit after. :(

Fuddrucker burgers are great too, very consistent wherever you go.

In-N-Out is ok, better than places like McDonald's and Burger King, but it doesn't touch Backyard Burger or a nice Fuddruckers burger imo.

I second that about Fuddruckers. They have the best burgers. They are fairly consistent wherever you go.

For me, the ranking would go something like this
1. Ray's hell burger near DC
2. Shake Shack
3. In n Out
4. Fuddruckers (consistent and not too greasy which I like)
5. I guess five guys (not that big of a fan though)
