this has been brought up, the supreme court ruled that it is permissable because it represents a notion, an idea... basically it is not associated with religion in the court's eye.

<< Right now it's only there because of tradition. >>

Exactly and what's so wrong with tradition? Today it seems we're blackballing tradition, rewriting history, taking holidays out of schools, etc., etc....basically eliminating history altogether. Without knowing your past the future will be a bumpy ride.

What tradition?

It must be remembered that, The Founding Fathers did NOT put "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance or "In God We Trust" on U.S. currency. "Under God" was added to the Pledge by an act of Congress in 1954, during the McCarthy "communist witch hunt" hysteria. "In God We Trust" began to appear on coins in 1864 and became the official motto of the United States only in 1956. [The motto conceived by the Founding Fathers was "E Pluribus Unum"

Tradition my ass.

<< I didn?t say it wasn't a debatable topic. It has just been beat to death. Do you really think you are the first person to have this profound realization? >>

I do not EVER remember seeing this topic debated on this forum. Just send me a link to prove your point. If you don't like this post, don't bother posting a reply. I am just sick of idiots like you who take their time to criticize others, when it is a legitimate question.....

And a BIG tradition at that. 😉

Gawd, I wish. I have white man's syndrome (no ass whatsoever).

I agree I don't undertsand why peoples immediate reaction to seperation of church and state is "that's stupid". I hate ignorance.

#1) As someone pointed out, this is not tradition and is not how the founding fathers made it.

#2) About the knowing you'r history part. If you were here, I'd slap you with a seabass. If you know history so well, then you'd also know that our forfathers left europe to escape religious prosecution among other things. So the whole idea of seperation of church and state is not to demean or undermine religion in any way. It is simply to keep the state (i.e. Fed Govt.) from choosing an official religion and then giving it preference. or worse yet, forcing on the rest of the population.

I personally think organized religion is the biggest organized crime in the world. People immediatlley label me as a heretic when I tell them this. I do not understand this reaction.

1) This is no ways implies I do not beleive in god.

2) This in no ways implies that I am not a virtuous and spiritual person.

I simply beleive organized religions and their ways are hurting us as societies by drawing lines. Why must someone belong in organized religion to worship god? Can you not worship in your own privacy? What difference is there in worshipping on your own or with 100 others?

My point is that everyone should follow their own religion, another words what they think is right and moral. I don't know about the rest of you, but I like being an individual.

Haven't you guys ever heard of the principle of subjectivity?

<< If you were here, I'd slap you with a seabass >>

Make the first shot count, monkeyboy, you would not get a second.

What's the problem? Just define "god" a different way if the phrase so annoys you. That shouldn't be any trouble for an "individualist". Pretend "god" means "money".

Society today seems to breed nitpickers like flies. If there was a huge public outcry against the "oppressive slogan" on our currency I'm sure it would be changed. But it isn't. Know why? It's not that big of a deal. Sheesh. At least find something relevant to rant about.

<< Yet you still feel the need to get the last word. Wait a minute, Mr. oreilly? Bill Oreilly is that you? >>

Oh, now that's just downright adolescent. I do watch the O'Reilly Factor every once in a while. He generally tries to let his guests have the last word. Pretty gracious even if he fails to do so a lot. 🙂
