Did the designers of weather.com take over the in flight maps recently?

I was on a jet blue flight yesterday and I usually watch the flight maps but this is the first time I saw that the map is shown very briefly then gets replaced by full screen ads for a while before going back to the map. Plus the map is almost always super zoomed out, they no longer have as many multiple zooms like they used to. I was very sad.

P.S. Does anyone know if you qualify for jet blue mosaic does that status stay with you permanently or is it just for that year?

I've never flown Jet Blue...

I flew on a Delta flight last month that was one of the redesigned 737-900s that had a decent in-flight map...yeah...it was kind of zoomed out too. It took a few clicks to center the map on the plane.

It's all about extra revenue now. I miss listening to channel 9 ATC on united flights.
Didn't matter if it was a 1 hour flight or a 10 hour flight, that was my entertainment.

I just flew Jetblue and didn't have that problem. Hmmm. I also thought their leg room was almost too much. I could see why they would want to cut it down. Maybe that's just the flights I've been taking though.

Want shitty inseat maps and entertainment? Fly Delta. They have this really crappy checkered screen. I don't understand it at all.

You have to qualify each year for mosaic. I'm really close to getting it this year too :(

i flew last week to san diego on southwest and the flight tracker i pulled up on my phone was great. the map was fine and i liked how you could see exactly where you were, as well as the speed, altitude, etc. i had always wondered how fast you land an airplane and actually paid attention to it now that they don't tell you to turn your stuff off, and it was exactly 150mph when touching down on the runway.

Not picking on the OP but, I'm starting to wonder if people are incapable of experiencing life without viewing it through a monitor? I could see wondering how long til you get somewhere but, watching the States go by while checking air speed and altitude and complaining about how well an app tracks it?

What else can I do on the plane? Too uncomfortable to sleep. Dare not touch the food else I risk joining the mile high diarrhea club.

But I do enjoy looking out the window at the landscape below, then looking at the in-flight map to correlate the land I am seeing below to my current position on the map.

Pray tell - what life is there to experience while sitting on a cramped plane?

oh i'm definitely a member of the mile-high-shit club. it's a tight squeeze for sure, and i usually feel bad for the person waiting outside the door for me to get out so they can get in.

Reading, watching people, playing cards, designing something...

While we're at it, what airline flies low enough to see anything below the clouds?

Its obvious you never traveled on a plane back in the 70's and 80's right? You take your entertainment before hand. Like reading material and so on. I usually sleep as well.

I never grew up flying with those fancy gadgets inside planes so it does not bother me one bit.

We were at around 38,000 feet and I was clearly making out the landscape below. Shorelines of the coasts and lakes, rivers, farmlands, built up ubran areas were all easy to discern. No clouds to block the view until we got close to the destination airport.

No, I'm not quite that old. Any flights in the 80s I probably was just another annoying kid and I dont remember them.

I am truly jealous of people who can fall asleep on a plane. I just can't find a comfortable position where I can fall asleep.

My dad told me stories of flying to England back in 1976. I wonder how many kids here would of survived the journey? lol!

My Dad said that the key was falling asleep. Time really flies (no pun intended) when you sleep for most of the trip. If not, take your fav magazine or novel. reading novels or tons of magazines was common back then. Or holding conversations with strangers as well.

Seats must have been way bigger and more comfortable. I don't recall ever being that uncomfortable back then.

I'm with you. I do the same thing. Certain things are amazing to see from the plane and try to figure out what they are. The Florida coastline, the Rockies, the Himalayas, islands just about anywhere, and so on.

Yep, it's a great way to pass the time. Like for example on this flight it was awesome seeing the Florida coastline south of Tampa, all these subdivisions of homes built on the water so that everyone has direct water access from their yard. I was surprised how many there were and some of them had some really neat shapes from the air.

I love to be able to identify the area based on the in flight map so that I can research certain landmarks further, or plan a visit on the ground.
