In Doom3, by selecting "High Quality," are you automatically setting the AF to 8x?

I know in the advanced options, you can select 4X AA, but I have no option for AF in the game. Do you set it separately in the video card driver options?

The only visual difference between High Quality and Medium Quality that you can notice is that High Quality adds 8xAA. So there should be no reason to use High Quality. We've been playing with compressed textures and such for years. Medium Quality looks excellent and then you could add AF or AA on the extra performance Mecium Quality offers.

High quality does look noticeably better though. If you're going to crank the AF up to 8x anyways, why not do it in the game?

Fixed.

Ok, that's what I thought. I KNOW high quality doesn't automatically add AA, because after you set it to high quality you have to then go to "advanced options," and set the AA level.

Ok, to sum it up, "High Quality" automatically sets AF to 8X, right?

Correct.

Then, like you said, go into the graphic options and try different levels of AA.

If you've got a 128mb card (in my case Radeon 9800np) and you're playing on Medium Quality would selecting AF in the ATI control panel use up too much memory (more than 128mb) and hurt performance?

I'm playing it on a 128MB FX 5900XT on high quality at 1024x768. A 9800 Pro should be able to do at least 4x AF.
