I am looking at the Mazdaspeed3, Civic Si, and the Lancer GTS. All have aux input jacks and I have a 160 gb iPod for the music.

Now 2005 maps are 3 years old true, but is it really that outdated? I would imagine not, unless you are in a new development.

if you cant get updates now, what about 5-10 years down the line? And businesses do change every year and if all you have is a name and not an address, you're pretty much screwed. nothing is static, it ALWAYS changes.

In-dash nav systems are run by DVDs for updates right? It's true for my case but what about other companies?

most do, but if the manufacturer changes vendors, you may not be able to get updates .
