in college, when you had no experience... how did you start?

the problem is.. I don't know where to apply with my major.

my major isn't computer science, engineering, or something very technical and focused

it's economics with a minor in mathematics
I plan to go to graduate school for an engineering related discipline but I can't land those internships yet


any advice?

anything I can do to pad my resume because it's lacking substance
 
talk to your professors and the school's placement program. they should be able to point you in a direction that will get you experience.
 
just apply and use your school's resources to get closed listed

usually it helps to go to a well known school so firms will give your opportunities without having any real experience
 
your school probably has a career center.. have them help you with a resume and cover letter.. also try to get them to match you up with some of the internships that are posted there.. also, check sites like monster, careerbuilder and hotjobs.. just type in intern and you'll find a long listing... and also, good luck
