they're just reciprocating... in america chinese is viewed as healthy...

its the only way most americans eat vegetables.

To be considered "healthy food" in China it appears you really only have to pass a few basic requirements

1. Don't put cardboard in your food
2. Don't get your oil from the sewer
3. Don't use old, tainted stuff in your food

Dang, some of these US food chains could make a fortune there.

well, my sister was telling me they use formaldehyde as a preservative in their beer.

I think there's a difference between health food vs healthy.

KFC is healthy insofar as you're probably a lot less likely to pick up salmonela or other food poisoning from a multinational chain restaurant (where a lawsuit could cost them millions) versus a random street vendor who doesn't follow any food safety regulations.

that doesn't make KFC health food, though.

Sorry to go off topic but the comments about the fans got me thinking "how the hell could that be dangerous" and after a good 30 seconds whisky induced thinking all i can come up with is if the fan didnt have a guard and it fell on the bed and the blades got jammed maybe the fan motor could overheat and combust setting fire to your bed.....

The problem is that you are thinking with (drunken) logic. You need to think with crazy. Then you will see that the fan can steal all of the oxygen.

What does cardboard in the dumpling batter accomplish?

Cheap filler I would guess. Maybe just a follow-on from the story claiming that cardboard was being used as filler in pork buns. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_cardboard_bun_hoax

"I know fried food is not healthy in general, but I trust that KFC will use real cooking oil. They won't recycle oil that they salvage from sewers as too many food street vendors do, they won't put cardboard in their batter as some dumpling restaurants do, and they won't use expired or tainted ingredients."

Mental note -- take a suitcase of food with you the next time you go to China.

Considering the amount of shit that goes into a lot of Chinese cooking, I'm not too surprised. We're talking a few tablespoons of soy sauce (read: salt water), balance out soy with tablespoons of sugar, a ladle full of vegetable oil (it'll stick to the wok if you don't!), etc.
