Moving my little sister into college (Loyola), so I'll be out here for a little bit. I've never been to Chicago before, so I'm looking for a few suggestions on what to check out. What are the spots I need to hit?

Thanks!!

#1: Take either the architecture or history boat tour. They are awesome. You get to go out into Lake Michigan, down the Chicago river and the narration is very informative.

#2: Dinner at the top of the Hancock. I think the view at Hancock is just as good as the Sear's tower. Don't pay for a trip up to the observation deck. Eat dinner at the floor below. It's formal dining and is fairly expensive, but when you consider the price of a trip up to the observation deck of Hancock or Sears tower and THEN how much dinner will cost you, it's actually quite the bargin.

#3: Check out either Cirque Du Solei Shanghai at Navy Pier or Cavalia (like Cirque, but with horses, if you like horses).

Of course, if you get to go from point A to point B via Metra/CTA, that's the way to roll. 😀

I just got back from 3 days in Chicago.

I like museums and really liked the field museum (could have spent 2 days there) and the museum of science and industry (could have spent more then a day there). I didn't like the aquarium as much, but had just been to the Georgia aquarium, so that might have jaded me. Didn't go the planetarium or the zoo.

The cloud gate in millennium park is really cool. The new ledge at the sears tower is very cool. For an ultra-geeky trip, fermilab is outside Chicago, home of the worlds largest particle accelerator.

If you want to go the museums and one of the towers, you can get a good deal with citypass http://www.citypass.com/city/chicago.html?id=nHU5ipH6

If you've never been, you could see the Blue Man Group. Also, I believe you are obligated to try some of the local cuisine.

I'll be the third to mention the architecture tour, and I've never heard of the Hop-on Hop-off Tour.

I love art, so I like the srt Institute and Museum of Contemporary Art, but you can never go wrong with the Field and Science and Industry.
Chicago is a city of neighborhoods, and each one (outside of the loop) has a special characteristic, if you can say waht you really want to experience, it would be easier to make a reccomendation.

Cloud Gate, and Millenium Park generally is a must....

hop-on hop-off tour

i've considered the museum of science and industry, but not sure i want to be indoors when i can be enjoying the sights. so far, i've narrowed it down to the architecture tour/cruise and the bar at the John Hancock tower. should i go on the hop-on hop-off tour or maybe jump on the El? i will only have one full day (12 hours).
