Here is the original topic Link

Apparently they are on sale at the OD B&M, plus there is a $25 MIR. (link to MIR in original thread .)

It doesn't compare really. The Studio DV is a firewire card, and the Dazzle is SVHS, RCA input only. What I have one for is video conferencing. I have a sony trv-900 that I wanted to use as a web cam as well.

This works well for that. I haven't tried any of the photo or video maker utilities, so i really can't tell you how they work.

I have a Dazzle unit and really hate the thing. I get massive lost frames. I've tried changing software (Virtual Dub, etc), adding memory, different video cards, drivers, etc. and still drop frames. After reading tutorials and FAQ's I can only assume the problem lies with the Dazzle gadget. It only seems to capture smooth video in RAW mode but then the video is loaded with garbage (which is what I think is causing dropped frames during compression/processing).

At any rate, save your money and buy something else.

Yes, if you are going to do any video editing, this is not the tool you want. For me, it was a cheap way to setup my own video camera for netmeeting, etc. If you have your own video camera and are considering buying a webcam, it may be cheaper to go with this. Most consumer video cam's have much better resolution than the $80 webcams.

Will this work with Windows 2000? And how's the picture quality of the video imported from a camcorder? I tried to use the video-in capabilities of my Intel PRO pc camera, but the picture quality was horrible.

KameLeon,

I have nothing to compare to yet, so I really couldn't say. My camera, however is a 3CCD camera and has very good resolution altogether. So far, when I tested it at least, the picture looks really good.

griffen, considering that I revived the original thread asking about the SKU, perhaps you could provide it so we can find out if our stores have any?

PS - to any potential buyers, I sent their pre-sales department an email at the beginning of the week with some questions and haven't heard back. Hope their tech support isn't comparable.

Spend a few cents more, use the $15 off $50 and end up paying about $10 after the $25 MIR.
