has stripped the European PS3 from dedicated PS2/PSOne Hardware. It now does backwards compatibility via software emulation. This means less old games will be supported in the European market. The article also says that they will not focus on getting old games to work if they don't work.

This is old news, it was mentioned back in October 2006 by Sony that they will be removing EE+GS chip in future units.

EDIT: Future units in the U.S. and Japan will be without EE+GS chip as well and all BC will be handled via software. This will make it easier to upscale games and make them look better and play better. It's no different than what Xbox 360 is doing now. 80% of games initially and 90% expected later.

That's OK, European gamers didn't care about that anyways...

I do! They better have a few of the top titles available! GT4, GTA, Tekken, Pro Evo etc!

I suppose it does'nt matter too much anyway i'll still have my PS2

It's a remark based off the whole "Europeans don't mind waiting" debacle late last year 😉.

That's ok, I doubt very many people are still naive enough to buy Sony products... right?

But the even better news is they are also going to charge Europeans more for the PS3. It's going to be 599 Euros which is $788.

Most of that increase in cost is because of the VAT (value added tax).

I would prefer emulation if it will give a higher image quality.

doing it through software allows the games to output at whatever resolution they want, ie 720p or 1080p
