In Alabama, saying the bible is only "partly true" is attack-ad worthy

This ad is pretty sad. Listen to the voiceover's incredulity when he gets to evolution. "Evolution best explains the origin of life???!!"

It seems the larger point of the ad is that he's a flip-flopper or Rino or whatever, but the issues he's "accused" of being a "liberal" on are issues any thinking human should be proud to be accused of. They might as well accuse him of not being an idiot.

As my friend said when he moved from Minnesota to another Bible belt southern state, Arkansas:

"It's just like Minnesota except everyone's stupid!"

Not surprising given the location. Always impresses me how the bible thumpers down there can be so transfixed on blatant, ancient fiction, yet somehow keep themselves insulated from common sense and news like the recent findings about Neanderthal DNA intermingling with ours, which is yet more proof for evolution.

Don't miss living down that way at all.

There are lots of people living in that state, myself included, that won't either. I want to punch my television on a daily basis right now. Wait until you see the other campaign commercials polluting the airwaves down here....

Well, Pilate was the Roman governor of Judea. So there's one thing.

Sounds like Alabama wanted to bring the title of "Most Mocked State" back to the South where it belongs. Kudos to them on showing those upstarts in Arizona how it's REALLY done. :D:thumbsup:

Uhhh, you're surprised that someone from the Bible Belt doesn't think evolution is much of an explanation for the origin of the human race? Are you really bored at work or something?

That's like a religious person being surprised that atheists don't believe in God.

I think that pretty much settles it.

meh... all they'd have to do is read ANY one of the countless books written by evolutionary biologists addressing people like them to see that there IS proof for evolution

iono, they really do believe there is somehow a line between the "hard science" of engineering and physics and evolutionary biology. one isn't corrupt without an agenda and the other is hell bent on punking god.

Bradley Byrne, IIRC. It isn't Moore being attacked, but I don't think it is him running the ad either. I expect some real stinkers of attack ads coming from him in the near future.

Moore is such a fucking douchebag. He needs to go feet first through a wood chipper. The whole deal with 10 Commandments was a shitty political ploy to get attention and votes.

I like how the ad equates being "liberal" with agreeing with the theory of evolution, and presumably being "conservative" with thinking evolution is bunk. Likewise, being conservative apparently means accepting the Bible as 100% true, meaning if you are not a fundie, you are not a conservative.

They don't? And here I thought it was a reference to people who eat babies. I just took the moniker because I like baby sandwiches. Little mustard, and a little relish. Yumm!

Fundamentalist Christian beliefs are a huge problem nationwide so why blame just Alabama?

The second thing to maybe point out is that much of the original meaning of the Bible has been lost as it been translated and re- translated into many languages. And there are serious biblical scholars who try to tease out the real meanings of many biblical analogies.

The third thing to maybe point out is that much of the original old testament is a semi accurate historical document written from various biased viewpoints. And at a time when human scientific knowledge was in total infantry. So analogies that may have sounded plausible then go over like a lead balloon today.

So we may somewhat ask, what would a debate between a current christian fundamentalist and a serious biblical scholar sound like? I would rather hope the Christian fundamentalist would have their mind blown, as many biblical scholars have been questioning the very original meaning of our current bibles.
