Imus punished by NBC because of Al Sharpton

Here is video of Imus on Sharpton "Radio Show"

Tell me, when did the word nappy become a racial remark?

And why is it that white people cave into Al Sharpton stupid racism?

I think Al lives to be offended, as in there is no way you can say anything that will make him happy.

Also, NBC should not have caved in!!! The cry of one black person doesn't represent the voice of ALL black people! And I know that for a fact!!!

I think it was actually the word "ho" but it is interesting that Sharpton immediately associates "ho" with being black.

Al Sharpton is a racist himself.

LOL, I can't STAND Imus--I think he's just another self-infatuated bloatbag on radio--but even I think this is blown ridiculously out of proportion. I mean give the guy some credit for getting on Sharpton's show so quickly and willing to talk about it. But rather than having a dialogue about how we've become desensitized to racial slurs/epithets because of ghetto/hip-hop culture, Imus had to waste all his time apologizing while Sharpton barked at him. Its bad enough that CBS/MSNBC are suspending him, but Sharpton wants him to resign or get fired? WTF? Anyone who listens to Imus' drivel and ISN'T offended must be deaf--I mean that's why they're called shock jocks. Its his job to stir the pot.

And if you can prove that any of the mainstream Urban radio DJs in LA, Chicago, Philly, NYC, Atlanta, Houston etc. have never used the words "nappy-head", "ho", "chicken-head", "hood rat" etc. on the radio then I'll give you $100.

F**k the double standard.

Ive never listened to Imus or Sharpton, but this was ridiculous. Sharpton sounds like a ****** idiot, since when did any of those words become racial?

You obviously have no idea what you're talking about.

You bring nothing to the table.

Wouldn't it be more accurate to say NBC punished Imus for calling the Rutgers women's basketball team nappy-haired hos?

You're an idiot. Imus would've been punished regardless of Sharpton.

But if Sharpton said similar comments about whites, it wouldn't even make the news.

I think it would, though the furor wouldn't be as wild. I think people are getting more and more fed up with the double standard.

Imus was still dumb for saying what he did. Anyone with any sense of the mainstream code of honor should know that comments like that would piss off the loudest racism witch hunters around.

I don't get the point of this thread or NFS4's. You guys honestly are defending this guy? No matter how many times you scream: reverse racism, I hate Al Sharpton, nappy-headed ho is not derogatory, etc - it won't change the fact that it was not a professional thing to say and he said it with malice. If I called a bunch of white players from the south "country boys that probably didn't get enough mayonaise sandwhiches before the game," it'd be offensive too. And I wouldn't be stupid enough to claim that it's no big deal because a) they are from the country and boy, that's such a positive thing b) even I love eating white bread sanwhiches with nothing but mayo (carbs = yummy).

I'll be the first to admit that many claims of racism, especially nowadays, are far fetched but the real racists out there (most of you), having taking this unfortunate fact and turned it around to a campaign who's goal is to dismiss ALL claims. And you think you are funny, cracking jokes, while doing it.

I'd watch Imus in the morning but Comcrap doesn't carry MSNBC on my package and I'm not about to pay $20 more for one channel.
I'd listen to him on the radio but the AM channel he is on here in ATL only dogs can hear.

Anyways, totally blown out of proportion. Why is this the top story on CNN.com right now? Aren't there more pressing issues in the World to cover?
He works for both NBC and CBS. CBS pays him for the radio, NBC pays to put the radio show on TV.

I'll be surprised if he gets totally dropped, his deal is in the hundred million dollar range for 5 years if I remember right.

The Rutgers team only made a comment 5 days after...plz, if they were really offended they would have said something earlier. I bet none of them even heard it. They have probably only heard that some radio guy called them nappy headed ho's with no context to the comment or the show.

Who said anything to the contrary?

Exactly. This thread is as deplorable as Imus' comments. However, Sharpton shouldn't come in defending these statements when the very race he 'represents' is making songs that portray a much more horrible depiction of women than Imus' foolish speech. But why are some of you here trying to DEFEND Imus? He should be punished in some way-shape-or-form for this statement.
