Controversial radio host Don Imus announced on his radio show this morning that he is battling stage II prostate cancer.

Imus, 68, known for his outspoken opinions on everything from politics to sports, offered no details on his prognosis, but added that he had full confidence "his doctors will beat it."

"The day you find out is fine," Imus said. "But the next morning when you get up, your knees are shaking. I didn't think I could make it to work."

He speculated that the cancer could be a result of stress.

Best known for a 2007 scandal that ensued after he referred to the championship-winning Rutger's women's basketball team as "nappy-headed hos," Imus lost his job with CBS, but was picked up by ABC later that year.

Stress can but usually diet and exercise (or lack of) seem to be the biggest cause of cancer. Some types are more based on genes/DNA but diet/exercise seem to be the biggest.

I dislike Imus - I think he's a marginal talent and not a nice man - but as a human being I feel sorry that he has cancer and wish him a full recovery. On the bright side, prostate cancer is a relatively curable form of cancer and there are many good treatment alternatives.

At 68, stage 2 prostate cancer isn't all too bad of a cancer diagnosis to have. Depending on the abc staging, it can be as high as a 85-94% 10 year survival, depending a lot on his gleason score. It's one of the more manageable cancers to have with fairly positive outcomes for treatment.

Isn't Imus a heavy smoker though too?

edit: oh and I just noticed the part of stress and cancer. There's no solid correlation between the 2 to my knowledge. It's reasonable to assume certain stress factors could affect virus associated cancers due to lowered immune systems but I don't think any solid evidence has been provided to support that.
