Improving my english

Hello everybody,
My name is Christian and I'm a student from switzerland. I've searched for a forum connected with technology(especially computers) at quite high level. And now I've found this and it matches my visions. I see this as a good way to improve my english and to learn new things about technology and to help others out.
Additionally I'm lookin for someone to talk/write with and who can correct me, and give me tips. (I'd prefer a native english speaker. By the way: My time zone is GMT+1)

I'll be happy to point out any errors in your posts, but I do that to most people. 😉

Good luck, you seem to be off to a good start. Your English is understandable and your thoughts are clear.

If you want help, then get the hell out of here, seriously.
The standard of English on this forum is pathetic, if anything, being here will hinder you.

Your English already looks better than well over half of what everyone else on this forum is capable of (myself included).

Welcome to the forums!

Your english already appears to be quite good (better than a lot of native speakers who post here).

Hello everybody,
My name is Christian and I'm a student from Switzerland. I've searched for a forum connected with technology (especially computers) at quite a high level.

[The wording here is a little clumsy. I might have said "I've been searching for a technology forum (especially one that focuses on computers)." Depending on what you mean by "high level," you could qualify that by modifying "technology forum" with an appropriate adjective, like "highbrow," "knowledgeable," or "technical."]

And now I've found this and it's exactly what I envisioned.

["Visions" sounds a little like you dreamed the forum, or that you suffer some sort of hallucinations.]

I see this as a good way to improve my English and to learn new things about technology and to help others out.

[Since you have three things in this list, it would make the sentence smoother to use commas to separate them instead of the word "and." I.e., "improve my English, learn new things about technology, and help others out." Note that the last "to" was removed in my example since it's already used at the beginning of the list and can be assumed to preface each item ("to improve..., to learn..., to help").]

Additionally, I'm looking for someone to talk/write to who can correct me and give me tips. (I'd prefer a native English speaker. By the way: My time zone is GMT+1.)

Hope that helps. I'm also available if you need someone for correspondence. 🙂

I have to say I'm quite astonished of the response time and those numerous answers. I didn't expect that many.
Thank you for your compliments. I had an average mark of 5.5 in English last year. I'm not content with it, because I still have problems in formulating and building "complex" sentences. I just can't say exactly what I want as in german.

The standard of English on this forum is pathetic, if anything, being here will hinder you.
I don't think that bad of the English in here. In many other english forums the english is pathetic as far as I can decide on that. The level in here seems to be much better.

@hjo3 Thank you for your advice.

Languages is very complex no mater where the language is from. Must know the culture to master the language.

Better English then most people here and you posted in the right section on your first try,

You sir get a gold star! 😀

Welcome to the boards.

I am curious ChristianV, you said you had an average mark of 5.5 in English last year. What does 5.5 equal? If you hadn't said you were learning English, I don't think I would have been able to spot you as "learning" English. My typical posts on here probably contain about as many errors as yours. I'm not saying you had much at all, because you did a good job. But, being a Native English speaker I should be embarrassed a person learning English has a grasp on it that's close to mine after 32 years *sigh* heheh...

There are plenty of Grammar and spelling Nazi's (people who love to correct every little mistake in your posts) on here, so ATOT should be a good place to gain some English experience.
