I would like to know how I can improve the MIDI quality of integrated sound on my laptop.

What I am really looking for is a way to replace "Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth" with something of better quality---particularly piano samples--cause the default sounds like crap-in-a-box. I know with soundblaster-type cards, there is soundfonts. That is not my case.

Is this can be done? If so, how?

And if this isn't the right forum, which is the right forum?

Well, I am NOT reccomending anything made by Creative, but I'm guessing the Extigy would have the same soundfont support.

Other than that, there are a barrage of external professional-grade soundcards out there that probably will work. Short of that, you could always get a joystick/midi cable and a decent keyboard and listen to them via the output of the keyboard, etc.

Then again, you could always just get some decent software to plug the midi data into that has a decent keyboard/piano sound.
