Question Improving internet speed through ISP network

I knew someone who worked for my internet service provider, he gave me the login info for their network so I could change my internet speed. The problem is I can't remember what to change any of the uplink/downlink values to. I'm wondering if anyone is or used to be an internet installer and could help me out?
