Improved Prescotts?

I've read a few reviews and user comments stating that this Prescott (3E GHz) model runs cooler than previous ones. Is this true?

I'm just asking becasue this is the one I got yesterday. The Intel stock HSF has been really improved, with an all-copper core, thinner fins and a bigger fan. Anyway, I wont be using it as I also got a Zalman 7000B Al-Cu ;)

So the 3E GHz is the new E0 stepping? I though those only came in LGA775 package. This one is a mPGA478 part.

the 5 last letters from the product code (on the box) will tell what stepping you have post them here.

D0 stepping.

SL7E4

The E in 3.0E is not the stepping. It only designates that it's a Prescott core.

You shouldn't have any trouble with a Prescott with a good case and cooling, despite that Sudian article.

:(
As for the case, it's an Antec SLK3700AMB with 2 120mm Panaflo L1A fans.
The CPU cooler is a Zalman 7000B Al-Cu.
The TIM is Artic Silver 5

Ooops. My mistake. I thought you meant E0.

Prescott cores do tend to run hotter than Northwood cores, but it sounds like that's a nice chip!

The steppings to look for (s478) are SL7PM (3.0) or SL7PN (3.2) They supposed to overclock even better then C0/D0 with the benefit of lower vcore! Anyway SL7E4 is really nice too. Running right now with 510DDR 1:1 2-2-2-5 3.0@3.8 default vcore!!

My 3.2E D0 at 3.9 runs cooler than my old 3.0C with the same air cooling.
