Impressions on C&C Renegade now?

First I'll say that this is neat in that you have a ground view of what many of us have played in the original C&C. I loved seeing a tiberium harvester up close 🙂 Neat idea.

That said, it plays like Tribes. I know a lot of people loved tribes but I abhored everything about that game. It was an excercise in frustration and incredibly slow. When you die you have to do a bunch of crap before you can play again.

The graphics: Oh WOW. These are SO bad. I mean really lets not mince words. These would have been OK 3 years ago. These graphics are poor. I'm playing at 1024X768X32 (on a gf 3 ti 200 with celeron 1000, 448 megs ram and it gets choppy at parts which I think is sad). Did I mention the graphics are bad? Perhaps a side by side comparison is in order but I'll be surprised if these are better than Half life.

Netcode: SOOOOOOOO bad. I have not upgraded to the 1.07. Does this help? The version I downloaded of Renegade yesterday and have been playing has very poor netcode. You run when you don't even know you're dead, seeing people who aren't even there anymore, etc.

I may be missing something but this isn't a test, it's a demo and it gave a fairly poor impression to me. I suppose in the end though with a patch or two it is probably the sort of game that Tribes players would love. I'm not one of them so I'll never play this game again.

Anyone out there really like it? I'm sure there are some people...because the servers are packed.
 
i agree on the graphics, im not impressed a bit by them, the game seems pretty simple, you dont take that much damage from other people, but thats how it should be, you are the hero, and its not meant to be a very realistic game...they claim the builders are so immense, but there isnt much inside of them, they are all alike, and each level is the same, you go into the base, destroy something/get information and you go out...the netplay could be very good with it..diff vehicles, team game, etc...i would rate it a 6 out of 10
 
The reviews are all over the place on this game. I personally don't want it after what I've seen. Doesn't look like anything revolutionary, like I thought it was going to be.

this is the first fps that i actually forced myself to play (cause i get motion sickness)
i liked command and conquer, so playing this games feels cool when u can play as the characters u build..
 
I'll tell you in 2 hours + another 3 hours for play time.

I played the demo a few weeks ago for literally 10 seconds before I uninstalled it. Terrible lag and my guy got locked up on run.
 
I have it installed on my WinXP computer and it doesn't work. Could it be because I have a TNT2 in it because I had to RMA my GF3?

I don't think it can be. That's a decent card and these graphics should, IMO, run on a voodoo 3 without issue!
 
I like the vehicles, but the balance sucks ass. Why they even bother calling the nod units cloaked is beyond me, because it's pretty damned hard to miss a big white lightning bolt running around even on the snowy levels. The base defenses are CRAP, omg, talk about impossible, the only way to get around them is just to swarm everyone in at once, and good luck getting that to happen with a group of strangers. The game is just overall a PITA, the servers suck, the netplay needs help, the graphics, while allright, are not nearly good enough to make it a hit with the eye candy crowd (thats me). The entire thing just is not worth the money.

Sucks because I really looked forward to it.

That reminds me, I hate how graphics seem to be tied in to your ping, laggy servers EVERYTHING gets jerky....I thought old versions of CS were the only thing outdated enough for that problem?
 
Is anyone having a problem in multiplayer practice when buying the helicopters and other flying vehicles? When I buy them it just automatically quits out like it crashed or something.
