I saw a similar thread but thought I would post to update on running GTX660s in SLI.
My main 2 rigs are in my sig below. I have been working on a 3rd rig that now has 2 gtx660s in sli.
Here are the specs:
Mb: Asus Saberetooth 990FX Rev2
CPU: AMD FX8320 OC'd to 4.3Ghz (21.5x200)
Cooler: Thermaltake Water 2.0 Pro
Ram: 2-4gig ddr3 1600 sticks of Gskill
Video: (1) MSI TF GTX 660 (2) EVGA GTX 660 SC in SLI
HDD (1) Intel X25M-80gig OS (2) WD Blue 500gig data
PSU: Antec Green 750 Watt
Case: CM HAF 912
Now before all the naysayers start criticism about the gtx660 in sli let me say this build was originally to be a single gpu build with a lower powered gpu. However, I received some newegg gift cards and decided to buy the EVGA gtx 660 SC when it was on sale. After researching I ultimately decided to run 2 GTX 660s in SLI. (The MSI TF had a great sale and I snagged one)
Before I mention benchmarks, I agree with posters who generally recommend a more powerful single gpu. Here's where it gets tricky. The price point of the GTX660 has fallen to @$200. 2 of them are cheaper than a GTX680 and outperform it.
If you started with a GTX 660 and upgrade to a GTX 680 you will spend @$460 minimum for a new 680 and be lucky to sell your 660 for more than $180. The price differential is $280 AND the dual 660s outperform it (perhaps the 680 is priced higher than it should).
IF you are building new the single 680 is great if you have the $$ (or a 670). However, if you already have a GTX 660 a second one in SLI might make sense. You will be limited on expansion.
On to benchmarks.
The scores are arranged as follows:
Single gtx 660 / gtx 660s in sli / gtx 680
BTW the GTX 680 benchmarks are from rig 2 below that has a slightly faster FX8350 @ 4.6Ghz vs the FX8320 @ 4.3Ghz for the GTX 660 benchmarks.

I will post more scores as time permits.
So far the 660s in sli feel fast.
