Recently picked-up a bnib 32GB TP at a great price in the FS/FT forum. This thing runs great and it's nice to have a dual-boot WebOS option.

Just wanted to share my experience. :biggrin:
 
I love my HP Touchpads. I have one with Touchstone charger sitting on the kitchen counter. It acts as kitchen clock/timer, quick internet recipe search, and kitchen TV. Live TV is streamed from HomerunHD dual tuner on my network through XBMC app for Android to the Touchpad. I can move the Touchpad anywhere while I'm prepping and cooking and still watch TV through it. It's awesome. Touchpad has good loud stereo speakers and decent IPS screen so it's excellent for TV and movies.
 
Can you tell me about app compatibility? When I put android on a touchpad (maybe a year or so ago), the biggest problem I had was nothing worked right on the 4:3 screen other than the generic apps like browser and whatnot. Most 3rd party downloaded apps, and especially games, were just about unusable because they didn't fit the screen at all.

I'm curious if this has gotten any better since then, since I still have one Touchpad left in the house and I'm considering migrating it to the kids now that my wife wants the Kindle Fire I recently acquired instead.

I used the nightly build 03/24/2013 from here: http://get.cm/?device=tenderloin

Make sure to install the appropriate gApps for the ROM that you select.

So far, every app/game that I've installed has worked fine. Not sure if the BT function is working though -- I don't use it.

How do you get the homerun to work with the touch pad? I've tried xbmc but no idea how to connect to my hdhomerun.

I created individual .strm files for each channel using text editor like the Notepad. We only watch couple QAM channels like KBS World, NBC, ABC, PBS, Disney XD, etc so I only had to set up couple of files. It's one file per channel. The format is like this:

hdhomerun://<deviceid>-<tuner>/tuner<tuner>?channel=<modulation>:<channel>&program=<program>

So for example if I wanted to setup channel 115.11 which is NBC HD for my area, I would type:

hdhomerun://1075f328e/tuner0?channel=qam256:115&program=11

The deviceid is some number I just made up for this example and not my real one. You have to find out your actual deviceid. The easiest way to find your deviceid is to run XBMC and go select "Files" under the "Videos" header. Then click on "Add Videos". Then click "Browse" and it should open up a list and you should see "HDHomerun Devices". Click on that and you should see both of your tuners listed. Click on either of the tuner and you should see the path listed on the Add Video source page. Copy and write down that path as that's your deviceid. You can click "cancel" as you're not adding new Video and just wanted the deviceid information. Once you have your deviceid, open up Notepad on Windows computer or text editor app on Android and create .strm file for the channel you want to watch. For my above example, I just named it NBC.strm. Create separate .strm file for each channel you want to watch and save it on a folder in your Android device. Then run XBMC Android and click on "Files" under the "Videos" header. Then click on "Add Videos". Click on "Browse" and select "External storage". Go to the folder which has your saved .strm files and select the channel you want. Click "ok" and finish the setup. Add the videos for each channel you want to see. Once you're done, you should see all the channels listed when you click on "Files" under "Videos". Click on the channel you want to see and it should start playing. Congrats, you're watching live TV on your HP Touchpad or any Android device. 🙂

I tried setting up NextPVR with XBMC and InstaTV server and app for Android but couldn't get it to work. I knew .strm files would work since I used .strm files to stream internet TV on my jailbroken Apple TV2 running XBMC. I kind of prefer .strm files. It's hassle to setup but you only have to do it once. I copied .strm files to my Dropbox folder and sync it and downloaded to all my devices running XBMC.
 
I just put CM10 on my touchpad after not using it for like.. since I got it. Its very nice... fast... good screen and even decent battery life now. The hardware is still quite capable.

I just don't find much use in tablets in general, so I'm sure I'll stop using this once the novelty wears off again...

sorry this is kind of off topic, but how did you get xbmc working with your hdhomerun?

Right now im using a hdhomerun prime hooked up with a cablecard from comcast. I use media center to watch TV, and i can also extend it to the few xboxes in my house. I tried using xbmc before, but couldnt get it to work with the tuner. Im sure the process is the same for the android version as it is for the pc version - but do you have any tips?

EDIT: dammit didnt see that someone else almost asked the same question. Im pretty sure my tuner is different, as i dont have to worry about qam or any of that. Any chance to get mine to work?

Silicondust is releasing new HDHomerun dual which will also support DLNA. That should be out in a month or two. Prime already support DLNA.
