IMPORTANT QUESTION.

place them in the pot, pour in the water, bring to a boil.
Boil 5 minutes
remove from heat
pour in a cup of cold water
let stand 5 minutes

voila.

I was under the impression that when you boiled eggs, you put them in the cold water to avoid their shells cracking and thus leaking into the water.

But, what do I know... I'm just a guy. (but, I can cook pizza really well)

you cant over cook them can you?

When you open a hard-boiled egg and the outside of the yolk is brownish-green, then the egg is overcooked.
What he said. One time I forgot that I was boiling eggs and after a while I heard a loud pop. Seems all the water had boiled/evaporated and the eggs blew up. The kitchen stunk like heck after that. It was a while before my wife let me back in the kitchen, especially since she detests the smell of eggs. (not that I complained too much!)
