i was updating my d865 bios with intels express updater. well it restarts and does some beeps(but not for 30 seconds like intel says), then it goes to a black screen which says:

"plz reboot and select proper boot device or
insert media into boot device"

so after restarting and it booting from my cd drive(windows cd happenes to be in the drive) i realized my cd rom must be plugged into the 1st eide slot. so i turn off comp, and switch them and my comp started up normally. but i cant access my bios. and eveyr time it starts up it goes to a black screen for like 7 to 10 seconds b4 loading windows. my bios isnt dead is it? help plz

if the bios was "dead" , your comp would not work at all. look in the manual for clearing the CMOS and see what happens.
good luck and welcome to ANANDTECH

On the motherboard beside the battery there is a jumper for the bios. Turn off and unplug the machine, then set the jumper to the other set of pins. Leave it there for 10 seconds, then put it back where is was. Plug the machine in and boot up while pressing the del key (or whatever key gets you to your bios).

Also, the manual should be on the motherboards web site. You really should download it so you know what the bios settings should be set at.
