i installed a new hard drive for a friend and told him to back up all his important files, he backed up his outlook express folders, address book, inbox, sent, etc. only instead of .pst files the ones he backed up are .dbx files. from the file sizes i think they correspond to the folders he wanted but i've never seen .dbx files. is there any way i can import them to outlook or outlook express? any help would be appreciated...🙂

DBX files are from Outlook Express 6 (maybe 5). You can import them from File->Import->Messages

if you can i sure can't see how to do it...😕 i have the .dbx files in folder in "my documents" from the back up of the old hard drive. i can replace all the new .dbx files with the ones of the same name with my back ups, but how do i get the files to show up in outlook express?.... it seems like the .dbx files are outlook express back up files but i can't find out how to restore them??? any help will be appreciated, and if you need any more info, or my explanition of the problem is not clear, just let me know... thanks in advance....🙂

Here's what I did when I replaced my hard drive recently. I had a new hard drive (C🙂 and moved my old hard drive to the secondary IDE channel (D🙂. Then I went into OE (I think it was Tools - Maintenance) and changed the "store folder" to point to the directory on D: where the .dbx files were. Shut down and reopen OE, and that's all I had to do. I didn't have to import anything.

thanks kranky......... it sounds like that should work, all i need to do is point it to the folder with my saved .dbx files ..... i'll give it a shot...🙂
