Implied Warranties.

So I was talking with a coworker yesterday, and we got into a conversation about implied warranties, and I was just wondering if all states have an implied warranty. I'm not sure if it's a country wide law, or if it varies from state to state.

I'm from Maine, and our implied warranty states that all new and used goods purchased for family, household, or personal use are warranted by law to be fit for the ordinary purpose for which such goods are used (4 years).

Does that essentially mean I never need to buy an extended warranty?

iirc, implied warranties have been codified as part of the UCC, which most states have adopted. of course, they were a common law doctrine before they were in the UCC.

problem i see it is that with saying it has a 1 year warranty and to be "safe" you need to purchase a 2+ year one. then wouldnt that make the ordinary purpose of the item a year?


also most places i see have a sign saying no warranties covered execpt those covered by teh manufacter or somehting like that.
