FTL!

A term consistantly used by stubborn mathematically challenged morons who don't even know the order of operations.

Typically used as a defense when such people fail to answer a multi-part equation, and don't feel like admitting their mistake.

When a person uses this term they are basically saying that there should have been brackets surrounding certain parts of a math equation.
Person 1: What does "2 + 3 x 4" equal?

Person 2: 20!

Person 3: No it's 14, learn your order of operations.

Person 2: No! It's supposed to be read as "(2 + 3) x 4". Implied Parenthesis noob!

Person 3: If that were true then the entire order of operations would be untrue.

Person 2: IMPLIED PARENTHESIS!!!11!

great definition though, right on the money.

All of this basic algebra talk on the internet is making me second guess my past 20 years of education. Knock it off, people!

I guess this person was looking at "Invisible <object>" cat pictures while doing math homework.

"Invisible mathematical notation!"

I love "implied perenthesis" because then i can create whatever answer i want to an Algebra equation :p I can never be wrong. Fear me!!!

Where did that multiplication sign come from? You can't have those in implied parenthesii!
Or are you implying there should be a multiplication sign where there isn't?

In their defense; the BAII+ Calculator is factory default CHN (Chain) order of operations which does left to right calculation without prioritizing operations.

the issue with &#8206;48&#247;2(9+3) is that the implied parenthesis is the additional one to make it &#8206;48&#247;(2(9+3)). By using ( ) some people are saying it's implied you do that first. Dumbest thing I ever heard.

You can't divide by zero. Not a valid equation.

Prove it.

Write the equation I posited, and prove it's nonsense. It's so easy, I just want to see if any of the meth geeks here can do it. People always spout off about it as if none of us have ever been to algerbra class before where they beat that notion into your brain, but I have yet to see an ATOTer write out a proof.

.9repeating seems to puzzle some people too, but I have yet to see someone provide the simple proof that .9repeating is indeed equal to the Whole Number 1.

There is no parentheses argument, so let's have fun.

Okay, not sure which one you're asking for proof for, but, seems a worthwhile proof to give =p

Let x/0 = a

From this, x = 0*a

This is false for all x EXCEPT x = 0.

Let's approach 0/0 then. 0/0 = 0? Okay, then 0*0=0, that works, no problem, right?

Well, 0/0 = 1, 0*1 = 0, no problem, right? Wait. Now you have two answers that are valid. (In fact, infinite). So, as such, the x/0 is undefined.

If this is what you were asking for proof of =p

As for .999 repeating:

Let x = .99999...
10x = 9.9999...

10x-x=9
10x-x=9x
9x=9
x=1

Done.

That said, I seriously doubt I'm the only one here who could prove those, though, I may be the only one who'd bother actually doing so =p

All of this basic algebra talk on the internet is making me second guess my past 20 years of education. Knock it off, people!

The internet: Now giving voice to morons who were previously selected out of general society by their drooling, unsociable stupidity. Now, they can talk to each other, when in previous decades and centuries of human culture, they were isolated to the fact that no one would entertain their obvious stupidity in normal society.

This is now a ~1 decade phenomenon that humans did not have to deal with.

This is why we have teabaggers, birthers, and scientologists growing at exponential rates.
