He's gone three months like that?

He has a colostomy, and his urinary system is borked too so he has a urotomy aswell.

Im in nursing school not med school.

is there a way to fix it?

Hopefully, when hes older maybe they can make him an asshole, and connect the colon to the man-made asshole. Not sure though, i dont know what condition his intestines are in

Without an actual sphincter, rectum, and anus, if they did that, he would not have any control over it and would still require a bag. So the colostomy is permanent either way.

Not true, there are procedures where they remove muscle from other parts of your body and put it in other places and innervate it. Thats why i said maybe in the future he could get it fixed.

Anal Atresia is a known birth defect, and does often involve the urinary system as well to varied extents. Generally, the child will have the sphincter muscles (the hold-it muscles), but the bowel ends in nowhere land (or connects to the urinary system). This is a serious situation and a colostomy is done for the first year (give or take) then a pull thru operation is done to make a semi-normal rectum (asshole). These people have various degrees of control depending on biology and doctor skill, but (and I can say this at 35, from experience) their lives are not over any more than someone with diabetes; It can sure as S--- be troublesome, and it can sure as H--- be invasive on lifestyle, but it can be adapted to by the person dealing with it. I DO recommend support for these people (psychologically, around puberty, and in the pursuit of / identification of appropriate jobs & job skills (not all jobs are manageable, just as not all jobs are manageable by someone on crutches).

I also recommend some dignity be shown from the people of this world. This thread is populated with some of the terrible social ostracism we are faced with, having this condition - it isn't our fault, it is our challenge, and while it's certainly an odd and awkward one, it doesn't deserve childish responses ("omg i'd kill myself!", etc) in a public venue.

You, sir, are destined for greatness here at ATOT.

It took them 3 months to notice?

Parents: "Holy shit, this baby is awesome. It's been 3 months and it hasn't pooped once!"

Makes you wonder...what kind of pervert surfs the intarwebs looking for threads about "imperforate anuses?"

My wife has two assholes. One between her cheeks and one that spends all day on the computer.
