Mnuchin apparently warning GOP senators that they're not going to like all the state/local money. Conservative angst at a big spending deal growing. Not much they can do to stop it though.

Go figure, GOP is suddenly against state/local money when the Federal Government is run by neo-fascists. But didn’t Donald Trump himself hold that states are responsible for their Covid response??

How much money would the giant tax "reform" provide if we revoked it, or at least the ludicrous amount given to the ultra rich?

Yeah, considering who pulls strings, won't happen. Just look at how much that bill increased net worth of various Senators and that's a hard "no"....and of course, let's not forget that one lady that Paul Ryan pointed out, who was getting enough back to pay her Netflix bill!

At least 10 Republican Senators want you to go back to work without proper protection. They are Fn evil animals now. They just DGAF. There will be no help.

Why not just let them go on unemployment?

There are several industries that are on the verge of total collapse. Some of these industries collapsing would have catastrophic consequences. The airlines needed bailed out after Sept 11. Covids impact on the airline industry is many many times greater than Sept. 11.

If the federal government had acted appropriately and timely the airlines would never have been put in this position.

It's unfortunate, but the government should not be picking winner industries and loser industries. Some airlines will go bankrupt and/or will downsize to match the demand. A lot of the business travel is not coming back now that companies have figured out that it's non-essential. Keeping people on payroll in zombie jobs means they are not adding value to economy and not given market signal to go train for another job.

It is going to be years, yes years, before people get on a plane when they absolutely don't have to. It is untenable to bail them out every quarter for the next couple of years, at best. The pandemic has changed many things, and to prop up and industry that won't be back for years is just stupid.

Yes, they was a one time bail out after 9/11, which was an extremely short in duration.

I've been working the past 21 years (no joke) and am finally aligned in my finances to spend more money at both Disneyparks and the Airlines. I've been a Disney Passholder 2 years out of the last 3 or so...and hadn't really flown since 2012. I probably flew on 18-20 flights last July -March when the pandemic started.

The whole thing is unfortunate because I want to go to the parks and fly...It's just going to be a long while before I have confidence it's safe. Hopefully the industries get the support they need within reason....but at the same time, that's how it works. If the industry is going to contract for 1-2 years, I'm not sure it's the taxpayers' responsibilities to prop up all those families even though that really sucks.

In the situation of the Disney layoffs, those folks could leave Orlanda/LA and find work elsewhere. Airlines, I'm sure, are going to struggle. I already noticed many good flights are priced really low.....like a few hundred (or more) less than what they were last year.

Give $10,000 to most Americans, and they're either going to pay off debt (banks), purchase durable goods (corporations), or purchase services (corporations).

For independent businesses, this means either sales, or at least cash to keep revolving credit paid. I'd call that business relationships.

Again, the reason why we all haven't just been given $10,000 to pay rent/mortgage/utilities/groceries/debt, is that doing so would decrease leverage that oligarchs currently have over most Americans. The oligarchs will invent and scream a thousand excuses, but that's the real reason.

The problem is that money isn't moving. Solution: move money.
Sounds like you are one of the people Biden beat...

I beat the socialist.

His words....

Now if you think I using the word as an epithet as Biden did... Oh well

If you're trying to say something, just say it. It beats whatever that batch of words was supposed to mean.

If you're trying to call me a socialist because I believe the US Government should be helping US citizens with US tax dollars, then your use of the word socialist is incorrect, but most people get confused by words or whatever, so I'm not offended by your confusion.

I work in an industry where revenue is tied directly to a broad cross-section of traditional consumer habits/spending. Tourism, travel, retail, restaurants, hotels, commercial office space, etc. feed into our bottom line. Mid-sized (2 million population) metropolitan area.

Our full year revenue was knee-capped. There is no "super V" recovery. We'll finish the year around 40% of what we budgeted because we were well diversified; other similar operators around the country that leaned more on tourism related revenue will be closer to 20% of budget.

Back in March we were forecasting things to return to normal by August/September assuming that we shut down properly to limit the spread of COVID. Obviously that never happened in the United States, and now we've pushed those projections out 12 months into late 2021 assuming a vaccine is approved and widely distributed by next summer.

Some things won't return at all. I expect commercial office space and business travel to remain depressed for years to come as people work from home permanently. The restaurants and businesses that catered to those office workers, not to mention the commercial real estate itself, will wither on the vine.

We're living on a sugar high right now from the stimulus bills. That started wearing off in early September, and Q4 is going to be bad enough that Congress will be forced to pass another bill due to public pressure.

You think I'm calling you a socialist
But I think your idea is interesting.
Former Candidate Yang proposed 12k a year spread out over 12 months.
And I didn't call him a socialist.
I am in fact checking up on the various trials of the UBI in other countries.

Biden would have though he said those words about another candidate smeared as a Socialist. Yet many here just put on their blinders about ole Joe and how willing he would be to reduce the Social safety net because reasons

But hey if you wanted to assume that I was attacking you or criticising your idea rather than just accept what Biden said at face value that's not on me

Your memory is failing you. Almost no one here preferred or agreed with Biden. The consensus was that they would support whoever the nominee was because beating trump was more important than actual policies.

I have no idea why that concept is so fucking hard for you to understand. At this point it’s no longer ignorance but straight up stupidity on your part. I suggest taking a step back and looking at the big picture and stop trying to change history to fit whatever reality you’ve created.

Second largest cinema chain in the US (and largest in UK) is shutting down (Cineworld/Regal Cinemas).

No James Bond was the last straw—missed out on every blockbuster release scheduled for 2020.

Weren’t movie theaters dying anyways? With streaming video and cheap large screen tv’s, there isn’t really any need to go to a movie theater unless you enjoyed the ridiculously loud volume.

As I said "blinders"

I suggest you refrain from replying to me in the future or even reacting to my posts (even if favorably which I considered an insult in and of itself considering your past replies to me)
And I will return the courtesy

Have a good day and the rest of your existence "sir" (or "ma'am" if my first impression on that is in error)

Well at least you admit you were blinded.
I was referring to your "binders"

Because you apparently don't notice the ones you are wearing or do notice but won't admit it and just hide behind a lame AF attempt at a pithy remark.

Fine I'll do for you the courtesy that you just seem incapable of offering.

As I said in my previous post good day and good rest of your existence.

I was looking for a Burger King a few days ago, my dogs love their Hamburgs, and of the three in my area two were closed and boarded up. THAT kinda surprised me. How do you explain that to a dog? :confused_old:
