Hello! I have a dillemma. I've not been able to slow my 1.3 celeron to a screeching halt. odly enough, and yes, i only avrage 10 fps at 640x480 in doom, 3, but this confuddles me:hitman 2, morrowind 3 installing,Driver, neverwinternights, photoshop, winamp, mechwarrior vengence, aim, yim, wm10, and a few mozilla/ ie windows, plus word, powerpoint. everything went smooth, no slowdowns that i could see, as hiccups, glithcyness, nothing. plus 1 other user logged on, using outlook in the background. I really dont know how it did it, but the virtual mem buffer was hovering around the 800mb mark. any ideas?

Yes, rejoice indeed. You have the powerful Celeron in your box. Now go forth and be happy. :)

Those Tualatin Celerons were a very good value chip.

yep those tuallies were pretty damn good

have you tried overclocking? i heard that they can go on the upwards of 1.6GHz...

1.6GHz on a p6 based architecture is going to be pretty smoking, id imagine it to be equivilent to a 2.0GHz P4.

the biggest downfall to the tualatin was probably the chipsets (815E b-step and the VIA xxxxT), and the fact that they ran on an SDR bus and used SDR ram.

I've been playing around with a newly acquired tually 1.1 on a VH6T for the hell of it. It seems to oc in the 1.6-1.65 range. Using a few SiSuck benchies, it does in fact seem to hover in the same performance realm of an XP1800+ or a P4 2.0 for the cpu tasks. And yes, the SDR does seem to hold it back quite a bit. For an office setup, this thing really is a dream. A very quiet setup can be made as little heat is produced. I think ultimately, the SDR really holds it back for gaming though.

actually, i would like to know how to unlock my multipliers. I have 1.0 tulatin core, clocked now to 1.33 ghz, and unfortunatley, my mobo, a biostar m6vlq(ple133) dose not have anything other than fsb adjustments. im really looking forward to a 1.4, so i can clock it at 1.862ghz. i mean, at stock the thing is snappy, but oc'ed its hard to slow down. Benchmarked it, to my friends p4 1.6 and it stomps it. any ideas on where to get a 1.4 tulatin chip? or just get me a p3 1.4 coppermine( my bios has no multiplier or vcore covoltages) thaNKS

Its not your board. The CPUs multiplier has been hard locked since the p2-266.

You mean the PII-350. :)

Those P3 Tualatin Cellys could take quite a load though, assuming that your mobo's power regulator was up to the challenge as well. I never could get my 1.2Ghz one to OC to 1.6Ghz like some people, it was rather disappointing. Might have been a limitation on the signal integrity due to the slotket. But an SiS 635T-based platform is real screamer to put a Tully Celly into. Much faster than those other Intel chipsets, and pardon the naysayers, but it was totally rock-solid for me. Much much better than Via's 694X or PLE133T cr*p.

Hey, didn't some German re-markers re-engineer those multiplier locked SECC and SECC2 units with a bit of extra circuitry (hidden inside the package) that allowed them to change to whatever multiplier they wanted?

Ahhh, I forgot about the 635T chipset. Doh! I even had one at one time, I think an ECS unit. I didn't think the VIA solutions too aweful, they seemed to work fine. The Apollo Pro266T chipset looked mighty nice.
