Imminent Xbox Price Drop + CC 110% Price Guarantee = $189?

I just saw a Circuit City commercial about some guy wanting to buy a big screen TV but not doing so because he said the moment he would take it home, it would go on sale. The CC guy says that there is a 30 day 110% price guarantee, and the guy buys the TV.

So... I was wondering if it's possible to buy the xbox for 299 now, go back and get it adjusted for 110 bucks, and end up paying only 189. It should work right?

I don't really think its hot because you can always get a $10 off coupon from buy.com Shipping for $99 and above is free plus you don't have to pay any sales tax.

Yeah, I guess you're right. But I do have to pay sales tax. It's just a way to get your xbox now and have a physical store you can take it to if you have any problems.

it's a 30 day gaurantee i believe. so unless you have inside sources as to when MS is gonna lower the price, then i dunno about this one.

there's an announcement somewhere that MS will lower the price of Xbox on May 20th. (too lazy to look for the link...)
i just got mine from fye last week, so i'm trying to figure out a way to get the $100 back.
only if i didn't rip the xbox open the moment i got it ^^;;

kinda funny tho, i actually thought about the xbox deal when i saw the dumb CC commercial.
PS2 price is supposed to be finally cut to $199 when xbox does, so i guess you can use it for that deal too...
i miss amex price matching already 🙁

Well, there has been wide spread speculation, but you're right, nothing is confirmed yet. There was thread on hot deals about the price drop though if you feel like reading some of it. Reuters reported that microsoft is going to announce a price drop on the xbox at some conference on May 20th. I'm working on my ferengi skills, 10 bucks is what.... a bar of latinum I saved? 🙂

Smoke and mirrors. All the article is, is quoting an analyst who believes MS will cut the US price. Blah, blah. Wake me up when Microsoft, Sony or Nintendo actually issue a release. I personally don't believe MS will cut the US price first. Depending on what Sony does, they may.

Though it makes logical sense that a price drop is likely, .....be careful.
You know BestBuy, Circuit City etc. will try to weasel out of this scenario somehow.
I think I read that in other countries retailers dealt with price drops by giving the customer some free accessories....something like a free controller, memory card and a game or two.
So you might not be getting cash back. ( don't go spend part of the rent check) 🙂
Maybe they'll give customers a gift certificate, to keep the money in-store?

On a sidenote, doesn't a $100 price drop seem kinda steep?
The original Playstation price drops seemed to go in smaller increments.
x99.99
x79.99
x49.99
x29.99
etc.

Maybe the Xbox/PS2 official price drop will only be, say....249.99 ?

Ok folks Sony is expected to announce a price drop on May 20th at E3 then depending on the amount of the Sony drop Nintendo has announced it will drop it's price. Microsoft has not commented yet but many believe being left with the biggest price tag after the drops will then drop it's price. All of this means nothing to your recent purchase as all price drops though announced this month will not take effect until November before the holiday season.

Look you might get it for $190 after pricematch. But if they do indeed drop the price, go to your local target sign up for a new card, and get 10% right away. Getting the XBOX for $180 if indeed drops the price.

There is no logic behind that thinking. No company is going to announce a price drop 6 months before its to go into effect. Sales of those consoles would slump due to people waiting for the price drop.

I'd have to take the wait and see approach on this one. I've read the article, and while I do believe there is some merit to what is being said, you cannot ignore that this is one analyst's take on Microsoft's plans for the Xbox. Now if it does happen, I don't see how Circuit City could get around such an event, their price guarantee would have to be applied. But as is pointed out, waiting to see what happens, then going the Target 10% route proves to be a safer bet. I'd hate to be sitting at home with an opened $300 item that pricedrops after my 30 days is up. Forget trying to leave that baby in the packaging while waiting on price drop, it'll never happen. Sit back, and see what happens.

Xbox has already droped prices in the european, australian markets.

not sure about japan though.

So I see no reason why Microsoft wouldn't drop prices here.

I just hope microsoft remember the few who took a backing at the company and purchused it at $300.

= P maybe a free game or 2.

If history teaches us something, it is that if any of the companies annouce a price drop at E3, it would be effective IMMEDIATELY. When Sony dropped the price of the PS a long tiem ago from $299 to $239 it was effective immediately.

xbox needs aboost -- its game lineup still sucks
of course, sony is very draconian in its ways of dealing w/ competitors so they would match pricedrops
gamecube cant compete against ps2/xbox at the same price so they would need to drop

consumers win 🙂

who gets to do the first press conference though?

as for price guarantee, i woudl agree that tax woudl end up covering the extra 10% that you gain from circuit city/best buy. unless you live in cali...then might be the best bet

This is just what I have read while searching around the net. Nintendo's answer to the PS2 price drop will definitely not be until Nov. I thought that this was true for the PS2 also but maybe not. I can not see Nintendo allowing the PS2 to be the same price for that long though. As far as the Xbox from what I have read up until this latest article from Reuters was that MS did not have any plans to price drop where Sony and Nintendo have been vocal about it for some months now. But it was foretold by many that the Xbox drop would happen soon after Sony and Nintendo anyways.

As far as the slump is concerned I am buying a Gamecube very soon and I am not waiting till Nov for a $50 price drop. So I think people would still buy systems if they were going to anyways. The holiday season sales are more than likely larger than the whole rest of the year anyway.

<< Xbox has already droped prices in the european, australian markets. >>

at least in europe the xbox dropped from a price where MS was making money on it to a price more in line with US pricing, so from that there is no expectation to be made about price drops here.

<< The original Playstation price drops seemed to go in smaller increments. >>

the psx didn't start at $100. i think it started at $300. i got mine for $150 in fall 1997. that was when it really started taking off (cheaper hardware and FF7)

I may be wrong but the price in europen market is actually around 230 in us dollors

I dont think thats close to the 300 us price tag.

Updated:

"Earlier in the day, Microsoft cut the Xbox's price tag for continental Europe by 38 percent to 299 euros ($266) and cut the price for Great Britain by 34 percent to 199 pounds ($288), and said it would offer a gift bundle for people who bought the console at the old price.

It also announced a price cut of almost 39 percent in Australia to A$399 ($215), with a gift pack for earlier buyers. "
